Opie
Hi, I'm having my 7 month old RR puppy snipped next week. Does anyone have any pros or cons for this? Peckhamrye
Well done, the act of a responsible dog owner. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/101222-pros-and-cons-for-having-my-puppy-snipped/#findComment-983276 Share on other sites
first mate
My advice research thoroughly and speak to your breeder. Neutering to early can affect growth and some dogs never grow up mentally, meaning they act inappropriately around other dogs. If he is sensitive or in any way slightly anxious wait a while. I'd talk to your breeder. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/101222-pros-and-cons-for-having-my-puppy-snipped/#findComment-983282 Share on other sites

edcam
Many now believe that doing this younger than 18 months is a bad idea as the dog needs to have grown fully and it can cause developmental problems. Definitely talk to the breeder and your vet. first mate
Yes, if he is a sex pest and tries to fight with every intact male he meets that might be reason to castrate young but many dogs having got through the terrible teens can be fine left well alone. Additionally, less confident males can be made fearful as the sudden big drop in testosterone after castration increases anxiety. Opie
Thanks very much for your advice. Have spoken to a few RR reputable breeders and they all agree to wait until he is 18-24 months. So that's what we will do. Opie will never know how close he came 😀.
