I do know what you mean. We seem to be able to cope with one at private school, but when there are two (or more - but not for me) of school-going age it's going to be a different story. Already spending a silly amount of time finding places to move to (we are planning on moving out of London at some point anyway) that would give a half decent chance of getting into an exceptional state secondary. I have a theory that if you get the early years right, you can 'make do' a whole lot better later on, but we shall see......

I agree that for a large part of of the population, private school just isn't an option. The people that cheese me off are those who probably could afford it, but get all superior about sending their kids to state schools (yet all the while spoiling them grossly with 'stuff')
