Holiday Home In Winchelsea for Sale

?299,950 for a three-bedroom house!

Ever fancied getting away from it all at the weekend, or during the school holidays? How about a holiday home / weekend retreat in Winchelsea?

After 10 years we have decided to sell our 3-bed mid-terrace, because we are planning to leave London, and move back to Cambridge in the next couple of years, and it will be too far to travel - check it out on rightmove:

Winchelsea is a beautiful, small town (where Spike Milligan is buried!), centred around an 11th Century church, it looks a lot like New England, with white clapboard houses, very active community, hog-roasts, cricket, summer fete, bonfire night etc.

The house is in good condition, 2 good-size double bedrooms, one single / bunk-beds, 5 mins drive from the beach, 5 mins drive from Rye, which is one of the cinque ports, cobbled streets, full of antiques shops, great for browsing.

    • Because of the weather which delayed completion with roofer only being able to work certain days, it was up from November - end of January. Went slightly higher than gutters (we also had guttering replaced).
    • It's tough being a courier and the pay which is largely based on the number they deliver is miserable. Hence the staff turnover is high. EFRI was previously branded as HERMES but they had to create a new brand name because of poor performance. We get regular courier deliveries and EVRI are by far the worst. They just drop the parcel at the front door - often without ringing the bell. But worst is when they deliver to the equivalent door number on LL instead of ours on EDG. Best are ParcelForce, DHL and DPD by a wide margin.
    • I know the couple you mean, and she has always been friendly and smiley when delivering to me, but obviously in a hurry, for all the reasons outlined in the thread. My gate is always open, however (unless someone coming to the house closes it when they leave). I can't see the point of gates that have to be opened and shut again every time someone comes to the house. It just seems a waste of time, and it's annoying if you are carrying stuff. And a closed gate  conveys a sort of "my house is my fortress" feel. To me, anyway.
    • Thanks for posting this. Really interesting. It would be good if you added a star rating, so that it was easier to do comparisons / see what your top recommendations are. Great blog though!
