I'm a "new" mum and need to find 4 others (to make up group of 8) to take part in first aid course, it comes highly recommended from my other mums friends, some are on this forum, others from NCT etc. You learn CPR with baby and toddler dummys to practice on, Choking, burns advice etc. I know I would feel a lot more confident if I had some training on what to so in these situations! If you are interested, please reply to this thread or PM me. Here are some more details...

Course: First Aid For Life (www.firstaidforlife.org.uk

Date: Wed 5th May

Time: 7.30-10.30

Location: The Rye Hotel, Peckham (in the marquee are at the back)

Cost: ?45 per person

...blimey - that packs alot into 3hrs (esp with such a big group). I teach for The Parent Company and we split basic life support/choking/recovery position and Accidents and Illness into 2 separate classes of 2hrs each and still find there's lots to pack into the time (especially giving all participants chance to practice the BLS/choking on baby and child size mannequins
Some mums I know looked at The Parent Company but although I'm sure they are very good they are more money and ?45 was what everyone seemed happy to pay. At least these mums got some advice and so are better prepared having done the course than not and (should heaven forbid) they ever find themselves needing to use the advice!

Am not criticising the want to do first aid training (as a nurse I am well aware how few do have training and how important it is). I was purely expressing concern that the curriculum for a 3hr class seemed alot and that I was unsure how much practice of the most important skills (the BLS and choking) would be offered to the parents attending.

Hi All,

I've had quite a lot of interest!! I'm going to give London Ambulance a call tomorrow and try and get a date set that suits the first 6 people that contacted me. I'll also enquire about maximum numbers and I'll let you know missse22 and candp. Hopefully we can squeeze you in too. I'll let you all know how I get on.

    • Hi there, Our Lexus NX300H, (reg RF18BWO) was stolen off our driveway last night, Monday 27th October. It was there at 9pm, and had gone by 7am. If anyone has any footage on their doorbell or Ring, that would be super helpful. We have asked some neighbours and reported to the police etc.  Most upsettingly, there was a box of old family videos in the car boot, in an old Sainsburys box (photo attached). If anyone sees these dumped at the side of the road, please contact me asap! They are priceless videos that my deceased grandparents took. Thank you for any info, Jojo
    • Another shout out for Milk & More - their app allows you to alter the order, add or subtract to it and also to schedule holiday stops without having to leave messages in bottle - so more secure. You do have to set up a direct debit with them, but I haven't had any problems with that myself. I have had one or two missed or late deliveries in several years, but not really a problem - only very occasional and caused mainly by delivery-person illness. And very much feels like an old-fashioned milk delivery. They do special seasonal offers as well. More expensive than the cheapest of the super market milk prices, but for that its at your door, fresh and no bother.
    • Enjoying the nostalgia and memories.  As with others, we get ours through Milk and More (is part of big co, so there is that against it, but it's hardly a secret/niche thing) - returnable glass bottles of milk, orange juice, yoghurt, and much more besides (as per the name). And yes it comes in the middle of the night in an electric vehicle. So can still get out nostalgia fix, doubled when the Riverford chap comes too.
    • This sounds like what goes on at Tessa Jowell GP surgery as well as others.   If you can flag yourself up as a ‘vulnerable’ patient or one that can’t use Apps for whatever reason etc then you can usually make appts by phone. They would have to make allowances. Quote the Equality Act 2010,  reasonable adjustments section.
