Talking to the BBC explains why the discrimination faced by old etonions is now gone now Cameron is PM.

"It is a sign, Dr Spence believes, that the Etonian label is no longer a handicap.

And present-day pupils, he says, are well aware of this.

"There's a renewed confidence that there is no reason that having been here, we should suffer thereby.

"We can do what we want to do in life. Etonians are back on the scene."

Maybe I missed it but I don't recall anti-Etonian discrimination being up there alongside the other fights for injustice ...

From the article in question http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/election_2010/8622933.stm a quote from Nick Fraser, author of the book The Importance of Being Eton - "Boys elect each other to positions of influence. So from a very early age, you become adept at being charming, buying votes, being smarmy."

Smarmy.. Nice word. Thinking of anyone in particular?

    • This is a huge part of the problem.   Starmer is only interested in himself, not in what is best for our country.    There's a litany of stuff he's done for spiteful jealous personal reasons which has damaged the nation enormously. Burnham would be a much better leader than of the other dross left behind when Starmer goes. To inflict a worse leader (and PM) upon us for his own selfish reasons would add to the problems and be entirely in keeping with his woeful premiership so far.
    • I heard today there was a burglary in Lacon Road yesterday evening between 20.00 - 22.00,  apparently the owners were home at the time & thieves got away with electrical items along with the owners car!  Wtf!   Anyone heard anything else?
    • What standing on the world stage? Starmer is a wannebe leader, no charisma, no passion, no leadership but tonnes of dithering, wringing his hands and pooing his pants.  I'd love to see Burnham give him a run for his money. Reason he became Mayor of Manchester was due to him no longer wanting to be in front line politics.  This thread has now gone well off topic, perhaps it needs renaming.
