As a new mum --my LO is 18 wks-- I'm begining to explore our local children's play areas. Sadly, I had a bad experience at the children's play centre in Telegraph Hill Park. The indoor play area wasn't particularly clean, and the staff --one woman in particular-- were extremely rude. Indeed, we felt so unwelcome, my girl friend and I left after about 2 min, even though it was raining outside!! I hope there are some friendlier (and cleaner!) play groups in some of our other local parks. What experiences has anyone else had?

All Saints Church play group has always been very friendly: http://www.allsaintspeckham.org.uk/whatson/youngsaints/ and the Camberwell Salvation Army playgroup is lovely: http://www.netmums.com/listings/PLACES/southwark/15/Salvation_Army_Parents_and_Toddlers_Group/1001/19659/. Peckham soft play is ok, staff are friendly and they have a separate area for babies.

See netmums for listings for various play groups, soft play areas and activities: http://www.netmums.com/places//southwark/

Saffron - my wife had a similar experience at the TH centre when our son was a similar age. She didn't even make it inside and stood outside in the rain and her friends left 2 minutes later to meet her. It took us until now (when son is 18months) to go back, and we still just stick to toys outside.

18wks is maybe a bit young, but once they're a bit bigger then definitely the baby gym run by lewisham council on Friday in Honor Oak is brilliant.

    • I checked - the Hanway Street place was Mandeer - it moved to New Oxford Street and was replaced by Hakkasan - very different prices.
    • Suppose it depends on how many Christmas cards from family and friends you’re waiting to receive. It’s been the Christmas period so surely give the post delivery service some leeway. Like Sue I’ve not posted off so many this year but some I still write letters to  e.g my late mum’s cousins and other family  but hey ho that’s something I do and enjoy.  I used to hand deliver Christmas cards to a lot of neighbours on my street but gave up this year as realised that most of them I don’t see or speak to and can only count on a few to call a true friend or neighbour.
