Ah I see.

No.

I guess some people might be so lateral in their thinking that they might come up wih it.

As I said I think most people come up with an answer then see if it fits the clue.

Long words are easy to narrow down once you have a few letters, after that it's a process of elimination.

Admittedly I read about this clue elsewhere but I knew why it was the answer in an instant.

Is anyone else finding the Everyman a bit odd today?

What's with the general knowledgey bits?

As for: Row about Diane being neater (6)

what is this, the sun crosswordor an excerpt from Bob the Builder's big book of blindlingly obvious clues?

Just checked answers for the two I didn't get in last private eye.

Kicking myself on both.

One who makes no.2 without one is a judas (8)

answer to number 2 was 'sacred cow' as numbers normally refer to other answers.

    • Steve used to joke that my old VW Golf kept them in business. I've got a more reliable car now so maybe that's why they are closing. Sad day.
    • Is Dell Autos closing down completely or just moving? For whatever it's worth, for MOTs I've had good recent experience with The Test Centre in Deptford. They only do MOTs so they don't have any particular incentive to fail you and they usually have same day appointments. Open 7 days a week and late. https://www.thetestcentre.co.uk/our-test-centres/deptford-branch/ Obviously you would still need a "normal" garage to do servicing and repairs etc.
    • So what is the issue? You want compensation for the loss of value, or you want to expedite the matter?
    • No. What happened? I actually thought, considering it was what we used to call Guy Fawkes Day last night, the loud noises from  fireworks ended remarkably early. About 9pm? Maybe I just fell asleep and didn't hear any later ones. Do people actually burn Guys any more? Apart from at places like Lewes, where I believe they still have Bonfire Societies and burn effigies of various political figures etc.
