Oxleas Woods - any thoughts

Thinking of family trip out with picnic not Dulwich Park/woods/rye/nunhead cemetary - love them all but done to death. Don't want to drive too far either. Anyone know whether Oxleas woods or surrounding area worth a visit? If so what is best spot?

Oxleas wood is lovely, though there is a big road running near which you can hear at points. Eltham Palace is also lovely and very near so can be combined.

You used to be able to get the train directly to Falcolnwood from Nunhead/Peckham and that's on the edge of the wood. Not sure if the route still runs, but may well do.

An old school friend lived near oxleas woods, and we used t have great fun there on our bikes when we were 11 or 12. There are some great hills for going down at dangerous speeds. That said, had our parents been with us, they'd have probably had heart failier!

Oxleas woods is great for exploring. I havent tried the caff but apparently it is very nice.

Just come back and highly recommend. Only about 5 mins beyond Greenwich Park but empty by comparison. Lots of hills for running/rolling/cycling down, deserted woods for exploring and a cafe to boot.
