Particularly liked the one that that BULLET PROOF VEST in it a few weeks ago. We scratched our heads for ages over that one.

He used to be a Curate at St Johns ED, just to bring some local info in.

Can I just say I'm not a bit on the dim side, in fact quite a bright spark in some ways, but I have never ever been able to think in thew cryptic puzzle way. Can you explain how you arrived at that answer please? Even knowing the clue, and the answer I still can't form the link!

Cheers Mockney....I think as well as not having the mind for this, I would also not have the patience....

Fair enough, although the charm of them is that you can leave them lying around all day and just glance over every now and then and occasionally you get a clunking penny drop moment, which is incredibly satisfying.

You'd be surprised just how much pleasure it can give when the mists part for one moment and you go "doh! how did i not get that?"

andrewD are you a saturday guardian regular then? I only have time for one crossword a week and that's the one for me.

But pasquale last week was no good. i just couldnt do it.

St John's - is that the one by Goose Green opposite the school? that is fab local info. we should have a plaque

Mockney I used to love the indy but that saturday guardian made me turn. indy has the picture quiz too which i did used to love as well though.

And in the telegraph they dont give the setters name do they? kind of takes away the charm for me.

    • There was another unprovoked attack on Monday this week on a young woman nearby (Anstey Road) at 6.45pm. Don't have any other details, it was posted on a Facebook group by her flatmate. Pretty worrying  https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EGfDrCAST/
    • OMFG is it possible for the council to do anything without a bunch of armchair experts moaning about it? The library refurb is great news, as it's lovely but completely shagged out - the toilets don't even work reliably. Other libraries in the area will be open longer house during the closure. July is a rubbish time to begin a refurb because it's just before the entire construction sector goes on summer holiday, and it would mean delaying the work another 8 months.

    • Second time Aria has completed a plumbing job for me and both times he’s been polite. Communicative, kept to time and completed the job. He’s very helpful and tidy as well. First job was ball valve in water tank, not easy at all. He and his team were fantastic. This time kitchen tap cylinders replaced and tap tightened.  Much appreciated, Aria thank you.
