Hi

Can anyone advise? We are currently booking our summer holiday in France with the idea that we will hire bikes for ourselves and children, including then 5 month old. Not being huge cyclists we are a bit naive - and suddenly wondered whether the baby can actually go the baby chariot/trailer we assumed would work - or do babes need to be able to sit up/be older etc. Have googled it, and found references to babies being in carseats in a trailer behind bikes, but then there may not be room for the 3 year old, and also as we're going by train it would be difficult to take a car seat.

Anyone hired bikes in France with babies? Is this an impossible dream?

Gosh, no idea, but did see a lady on a bike the other day with a tiny baby in a sling on her front - depending how brave you are and how long the cycle trips would be would that work?

I've only seen them that small in a car seat fixed into the trailer I have to say, but I think I'd feel they were very vulnerable at that age in one of those.

Hmmm, not sure my balance is up to that!

We'll only be using dedicated cycle paths, so there shouldn't be cars to worry about. So I'm ok with baby in a trailer behind, if he will be allowed at that age - but am now guessing that the seats won't support him enough and his head will probably wobble all over - especially if the paths are bumpy.

Sigh, might be time for a rethink.

    • I don't know how it works now but my late parents had little money when they were retired (just state pension and they rented their flat) and they used to take their cat to the Blue Cross (In Victoria if I remember correctly) where treatment was free for those who could'nt afford a private vet. I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
