40th birthday celebrations

Have some friends coming over for one of their 40th's but they're not Londoners so always want to go out centrally. :-( I'd prefer to avoid this so any suggestions for great restaurants, cocktails & even dancing would be most appreciated. Happy to travel just don't fancy the West End much. Thanks

Trinity in Clapham has food to match most grand restaurants in the West End, and a much more friendly, South London neighbourly atmosphere. The chef's table by the kitchen is particularly nice for a group. Chez Bruce in Wandsworth is a great restaurant too, though much harder to get a table.
