davidh
there has been a mini-lake around a tree at the rye end of the bottom field for some weeks. this is where the original rye, I think, is undergound. also water level in the pond by the oval is unusually high, particularly as we have no real rain for ages. I hope the council is going to sort this out before it gets worse Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11974-flooding-in-peckham-rye-park/ Share on other sites
sheilarose
A spring suddenly appeared in the middle of our lawn in late winter/early spring. Like the new pond in Peckham Rye it doesn't disappear no matter how little rain we get. We have no idea what to do about it, other than making sure that it wasn't a broken pipe or sewer, which we did by calling in Thames Water. Maybe the water table in this area is rising. Marmora Man
Flooding is a bit rough on your lawn, but part of Peckham Rye turning into a mini marsh should be good for wildlife and bio diversity. Parks can be too tidy - I'd advise just letting the Peckham Rye pool be. Peckhamgatecrasher
I love the boggy bit of the Rye - unfortunately they caged part of it in on Friday, so I think they are going to fix it. It's been wonderful to see dogs and birds splashing about in it and there have been some amazing dragon flies too. I agree with M.Man, would have been great to see what marshy plants evolved there. sheilarose
We will probably end up turning that bit of our lawn into a bog garden -- just hope the dragnoflies find their way there. SteveT
Dig the lawn up and have a pond, unless of course you have toddlers then I would not dream of having a pond. curlykaren
do you mean in the field over on the forest hill road side of the park? This is where the Peck emerges for a short distance and is always wet to some extent.
