Dinner and Drinks

My (sprightly Grandma) is down visiting us this weekend and I'm looking for nice restaurants, pub, breakfast recommendations for Saturday. We are WD'ers but love to venture East now and then, but I haven't been enough to know too many places. Basically after a good breakfast spot or perhaps cafe for tea and cake and a dinner recommendation (British)

Any thoughts on where we could try much appreciated.

Artusi is good, simple Italian and does a good value Sunday lunch. It is on Bellenden Road. Franklins on Lordship Lane near to the Picture House is also very good but more like central London prices.

I'd recommend Petitou on Choumert Road for breakfast as you can sit outside under awnings on a roomy terrace beneath a large tree and the food is good and well-priced. (You have to pay for parking on a Saturday but it's only about ?1.50 for an hour and you may get a spot nearby that is free.)

In ED, Blue Brick Cafe on Fellbrigg Road is great and has a loyal clientele; it is vegetarian/vegan and its food is delicious and wholesome. (It does not accept plastic.)

Franklins has a good value set lunch if your Grandma is here on Friday, served until 5 pm.

The Lordship Pub has lovely food.

Could also try the cafe Norris and Knight on Forest Hill Road, past the Turkish supermarket, for brunch. They have three seating areas, two outside and one inside. And hens.

Breakfast... Toasted or Pedler for more extravagant options. Caf? Viva or Boulangerie Jade for croissant and coffee. Andersons is fine too, unless you want pastries/croissants (too dense and doughy). Petitou is a good option if you fancy sitting outside. (PM me for roads near Bellenden with free parking)

Dinner... again Toasted and Pedler, or Franklins. Crooked Well and Camberwell Arms both excellent if you can make the journey over the hill. Always loved The Palmerston too (but not been recently). Artusi is also excellent.

Tea and cake.. Boulangerie Jade will be hard to beat. Or the Horniman caf? is a really nice spot if the weather is nice. Or a bit of a curve-ball... Fabulous Ice Fires do really good ice cream.
