The intelligence you are born with is no more to your credit than the beauty you are born with - discuss..

hopefully it's not got much to do with the ability to use questions marks

(sorry - personal irrational thing that causes me rage)

I have a friend who said in 1st year at Secondary School, in the end of year exams, he came top of the year and the teacher in one particular subject had to double check who he was, she did not recognise his name as he had contributed nothing verbally to the class all year, but came top of the class.

Socially he is a man of few words but he is a consultant doctor. So he is trusted with life and death decisions.

I think verbal communication skills are very important in life and personal relationships and socially people make their own judgements as to your level of intelligence based on their interaction with you.

I wish my verbal communication skills were better, but given the choice I'd choose logic as I think in the way intelligenece is measured for school and professional exams etc it a strong attribute to have. If you can verbally communicate that too its a bonus.

????? (in case I missed any)

I think sitting exams can be a skill in itself that doesn't require high levels of intelligence. An ability to write coherently and succinctly, an ability to remember key facts, to plagiarise study aids without being seen to...

There was also a strong oral component to quite a few of my exams.

Academically I did way better than my brother. But my brother's blessed with a brio and a confidence and an ability to sell coals to newcastle, and I think all of those things have stood him in greater stead than my English Speaking Board exams.

    • Ohh dear.  Fireworks can be great fun.  Where I used to live the kids would have firework wars/games.  Watching them was more enjoyable than watching  TV. (Which you could hardly hear due to the pops and bangs).  It's not like anyone/anything could stop them. I would still prefer organised public displays that are affordable.   And I agree that fireworks cause problems for wild life, pets and people.   It seems to be one of those things that just happens so we have to put up with it.  But it is still not as problematic here as in other areas in London - that's for sure.
    • I made sure to set off a few today just to rile you guys up 😇😂 Always looking for something to criticise
    • Ugly...maybe..does it bother me..NO! I think its somehow reassuring to see theres still phoneboxes around. East Dulwich may  be getrified but there may well be some elderly people who don't have mobiles and kids who may have lost theirs adults ditto etc etc. I'd rather keep it than lose it...just because i don't use it does'nt mean its not needed.  there are many eyesores in the modern world not all of them as potentially useful.
    • I strongly recommend Balayage salon in Lordship lane as everytime I visit, they make me feel very spicial with thier profisionalism and care.   I have been going there for the last 10 years maybe more, and will never exchange them for any other. They are profisional, welcoming and they also always have an offer. I feel like a new woman every time. X
