Atera, best of the German car rack system brands, makes excellent roof bars. Their marketing philosophy is different from Thule's in that Atera roof bars are supplied fully assembled and ready to go - you just tighten them onto the roof using the special 'tightening key' provided. Their bars are car specific and should therefore be sold on with the car - which is fair enough as you probably won't know which bars are required for your next car until you've bought it. Other points in their favour include:

Modern design. They look good and feel good

They use any appropriate Fixpoint fittings in the car - the right hand picture shows the pegs which locate into recesses behind the Audi door trims

There's real attention to detail, e.g. there are rubber strips in the slots on the base of the bar to minimise wind noise, a feature not seen in other systems

The recessed lock is intrinsically much more secure than having an external lock

Unlike other systems, there is a comprehensive spare parts programme for all Atera products.

Technical specifications:

Weight: 5.0 kg

Bar length: 122 cm

Load carrying weight: 75 kg

Roof bar dimensions 58mm wide by 28mm deep. The 'T track' slots use 20mm x 20mm adapters, i.e. the same as Thule's aerobars.

Most of Atera's roof bars and accessories business is with the Original Equipment market, i.e. direct to the car manufacturers, where major customers include Audi, BMW, Daewoo, Chrysler, Fiat, Honda, Mitsubishi, Mercedes, Opel, Subaru, Suzuki, Vauxhall and Volkswagen. Atera?s reputation therefore speaks for itself and, (probably needless to say), all their products are TUV certified and quality approved to ISO 9001.

    • No I absolutely did not - that much is clear. Have you read the latest stories about Unite, Len and the hotel in Birmingham? The UK electorate were smart enough to reject a far-left party in 2019, let's hope they are smart enough to reject a far-right party at the next election too. If not we are all doomed.
    • I would also like to add my recommendation for James.  I had taken four names of electricians from the forum - in the order I had read the reviews.  First three no response - even days later. I phoned James this morning. He answered, gave me a time, stuck to it, messaged again 15 mins before arrival.  He fixed my problem on the spot.  Sensible charge out fee. Perfect service.
    • Most recent polls for the next election suggest it will be a hung parliament, with Reform the largest party by a fair margin. But that is predicated on Reform finding around 300 candidates who are actually electable. Given the number of Reform council candidates who have had to drop out prior to or after the local elections, does that seem likely? Social media is pretty unforgiving when it comes to finding skeletons in cupboards; a retweet or a like seems enough to scupper political ambitions. A few may defect from other parties, but do you think the electorate would really vote for so many brand new MPs from a newish party?  I'm not so sure.
    • To be fair, anything which waylays someone on their way to Palma Nova or Lloret de Mar from spending even more pre-flight time in Spoon's surely has some merit? I think losing a few quid on a litre of Bacardi and 200 Benson & Hedges Gold seems a reasonable price for society to pay. ,
