Has anyone had one installed and who did they use? Looking for advice and recommendations. It is to replace an ugly gas fire

Just make sure that the people who fit it are HETAS registered. Insist on it or go elsewhere. You'll be in for no end of trouble if you don't. The onus is on you to make sure the work is done properly, not the fitters. We used a contractor who said their fitters were HETAS but when I asked for the certificate it was like asking for moondust.

I agree, and hope you enjoy your fire - responsibly. They can be warm and stylish and economical. Some around SE22 still think it is OK to burn smoke-creating fuel (logs, coal etc) which is very bad news for people who have asthma, emphysema, bronchitis etc.

I agree with you. You can now get ones approved for burning in London which is what I plan to do. They have to be approved by DEFRA and there seem to be quite a few that qualify. So - to use all the acronyms - it will be DEFRA approved and HETAS installed!

Indeed, it's not the fuel, Nigello - it's the appliance the fuel is burned in. In case you're scowling at everyone carrying a sack of logs!
