I had one and it was fab. Bought it too late to need the carrycot but i really liked the seat unit because it meant bubs could sit up nice and upright. might not be suitable for a tall child for more than a couple of years, but by then you may need a double anyway ;o)

light and easy to steer, i wasn't keen on the handle bars but you can buy a better version of them for 20quid

I have the Microlite Fastfold....although I do love it....I don't like the fact that I am spending a fortunate on repairing the tyres, I have punctures the whole time.....If I decided again I would go for traditional plastic (?) tyres like a Maclaren and not the fancy tyres of a Microlite, bugaboo etc........It is not as though I take the pram particularly "off road"

Even one of the guys in the cycle shop just up from Goose Green said that they get A LOT of work from parents with these types of buggies...... gggrrrrrhhhhhh

Fudge,

That's so strange, I've had 4 buggies over the last 6 years with inflated tyres, and only ever had (touch wood) 2 punctures - and I was off road nearly every day so really not surprised, one puncture was down to a thorn picked up at Cox's Walk/Sydenham Woods, and the other in Nunhead Cem.

Are you regularly walking past somewhere that has a lot of building work going on, or a garage/workshop? I once has nails in 3 car tyres at once, which I think was down to parking next to a skip (though was seriously paranoid that I'd upset someone badly for a day or two!!) - very expensive and annoying.

Some of the buggy manufacturers make solid rubber tyres as an optional alternative to the air filled ones (I know that Mountain Buggy do for sure), so that you can avoid the whole puncture issue if it is a big problem.

Poor you though, can understand you feeling fed up about it.

Re the OP's question - I had a Micralite buggy pre the days of the carrycot option, and have to say I liked it apart from I found the front wheels being wider than the back a bit of a pain and quite often used to manage to midjudge gaps and catch the front wheels on things - I've posted before on here about it and others have had the same issue so it is something to bear in mind.

You would get a 2nd hand Bugaboo at a decent price if they are what you really like, and I would look at the Mountain Buggy's too as they come with a Carry Cot option and I think they are great (bit of a buggy holic I admit, but most of mine came and went via ebay or the ED Forum so never felt too bad about it as they tend to hold their price if you look after them).

I loved having a proper 'pram' with my 2nd daughter, so lovely and cosy when they are newborn, much nicer than a pushchair, even if it is one that reclines, just not the same.

Molly

Further to Molly's & Helen GV posting - yes strange but true. I think that I might just be very very unlucky as friends also have the Microlite and have no problems either......but again at least if it is a Maclaren there is no opportunity for the tyres to fail.

I wish I could say that I am the very sporty type but alas no.......I just must be lucking finding thorns, glass etc etc.....

oh well keeps the local cycle shop in business :))

  • 4 weeks later...

I've had a Microlite Toro for 2 1/2 years. I stopped using it when my daughter was 18 months because the buggy material started coming apart. Microlite replaced the frame when it broke within the warranty period but the material came apart after that.

I like the carry cot and am using it for daughter number two but it is very annoying to push around because the front wheels are wider apart than the back wheels so I keep crashing into things (maybe it is just me?!)

However I am trying to buy a bugaboo now - so that says it all really.

Best wishes for November.

    • It may also have been a "regroup" where the TSG move to another location to muster in case they are needed....a "regroup" may also be used when they are, ahem, hungry and need to get to a feeding station. The old East Dulwich police station used to be a feeding and watering hole and was often used as such and mobile units would rush there at feeding time!
    • I am doing an art course. If anyone has any large canvases (used or unused, A1 size or larger), I would be happy to take them off your hands if free or cheap! Sorry but not painted with oil, as I am mainly using acrylics and collage, and oil underneath would not work. Please PM if you have anything suitable! Thanks!
    • is anyone getting rid of one or something similar?   thanks
    • ?????? I have read through this thread and I am totally bemused. It had previously seemed to be a helpful thread, and I  don't want to send it any more off topic by responding to the last two posts by other forum members. Could someone (or admin) please PM me if they think I have stepped out of line and explain why, as recent comments seem to be directed at me and have nothing to do with the subject of the thread. This is a forum, and as in real life people are all  different, with different personalities and sensitivities, and react in different ways,  but the direction this thread has taken is very disappointing. ETA: If the two previous posters want to discuss the points they have made which aren't relevant to the subject of this thread, perhaps one or both of them could start a new thread or threads in the lounge? But probably this thread has come to an end  anyway. Thank you to the other posters for your useful information.
