Over the bank holiday they will be a running a restricted service licence broadcast from the Ross Revenge (the last ship) from Tilbury and should be heard in south London on 531Khz, the lower end of the medium wave band. Also webcasting live onhttp://radiocaroline.servemp3.com/. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12948-remember-radio-caroline/ Share on other sites
Townleygreen
Wonderful stuff, chick, I remember their first broadcast back in 64. Broke the mould of UK pop radio forever. I'll be listening for sure. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12948-remember-radio-caroline/#findComment-355552 Share on other sites
Ridgley
What did you think, of the film that was meant to be based on it? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12948-remember-radio-caroline/#findComment-355678 Share on other sites
Chick
The Boat that Rocked. I quite enjoyed it though in terms of an historical archive it was rubbish but gave a feel for the era which I missed being too young. The Caroline support group have nothing to do with it and distance themselves from it but the comparison is obvious.I heard a debate on the radio last week about how modern pop videos are very sexual and sexualize young people and I remember the same being said of the Rolling Stones and Bill Haley & the Comets and also Elvis so no change there. I think the image of stuffy government ministers was spot on. The government hated Radio Caroline because they couldn?t control it. Young people now know more than we did and that?s no bad thing. I remember asking an older cousin what sex was and being slapped about the head and told never to use ?that word? again. In the End Caroline became an album station in the middle to late seventies and was brilliant, apart from the religious broadcasts they had to make to get some cash. When it was finally raided in 1989 by British and armed Dutch police, who stole their records and smashed up the transmitter equipment, in international waters, that was an act of sheer piracy. I am looking forward to hearing them again. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12948-remember-radio-caroline/#findComment-355685 Share on other sites
