Contentious! I know that's been rumoured but on the other hand Keef's very detailed in "Life" about how and why he wrote it.

Marianne Faithful reckons she inspired the main lyric. Everyone wants a piece of it.

By the way, if you've not read "Faithful", you should. Really entertaining read with some great stories.

I've never played Wild Horses in open G tuning. I've never actually played anything in open G (or D) tuning. I should mess about with some alternate tunings one of these days.

Yeah, Mick says he wrote it based on what she said when coming round after a suicide attempt, but Keef says he wrote it about missing his newborn son, others say Gram Parsons...just shows what lots of drugs mixed with some combative egos can do!

Open tunings are superb fun, great for playing Stones licks and acoustically great for blues.

Problem is, you then have a choice between playing all your songs with that tuning, retuning mid-set, or carrying multiple instruments. So I've always avoided..

I wouldn't dare play in public, so not a problem for me! Retuning is a bind, but I managed to con Mrs.H that I need two acoustics, one to keep in standard and one open, plus I also have a Variax electric which can switch tunings at the turn of a knob.

Hey ! I opened this thread in order to alert you all to this interesting shop, which I didn't want to share anyway, in case you all got there first and bagged anything good, but altruism prevailed - and not so that you could hijack it and turn it into a guitar dating site, you are potentially scaring off bona fide respondents.

Whilst I am here : Horse or H was heroin, and wild horses was a bad bad trip, in the colloquial parlance of the time.

This song smacks (pardon the pun) of Keith and another sung by him, which I picked up from the soundtrack of The Sopranos, best played/watched live, 'Thru and Thru' , same sort of plaintive longing, - I am betting on Keith.

Gram Parsons didn't have the necessary melancholy, too busy with other creative endeavours.

It wasn't that great a story to be honest, once you're past "I talked to Hank Wangford about Gram Parsons" you've pretty much got the gist. ;-)

    • Hi there!   We are looking into getting a side return and loft dormer. I wondered if anyone had any experience of working with Resi or GoPlans? We'd be keen for there to be an element of interesting architectural design, however can't afford a traditional architect. We wondered if Resi might have the edge over GoPlans on this due to the size of the company and the amount of architectural designers they have working for them.    We'd love to know any thoughts you had about these companies or similar!   Thanks!   Julia
    • I’d like to recommend local plumber - James at Trelco Plumbing. I’ve used them twice now, for a kitchen tap replacement and a boiler repair. Both times they were able to attend at short notice, arrived on time and we are very happy with the work they have done. James is polite, responsive and easy to deal with. • Deptford Green and Elm Green anecdotally have a more realistic and compassionate to kids differing needs. Whether that is still the case i'm not sure. Having 3 boys at Charter i would seriously consider a boys school if you have them, Charter East really aren't geared up for the different educational needs of some boys and the challenging behaviour this frustration leads to. I have heard amazing things about St Thomas the Apostle boys school.
