Does anyone have any recommendations for private therapy sessions? It will be for our 3 year old son who has some pronounication issues... not really sure what can be done at but his nursery thinks there is an issue. We're having to wait months for our NHS sessions and just want to get the ball moving as soon as possible. Any suggestions much appreciated!
Our 3 year old also had pronunciation issues (pm me if you want to discuss as it depends what they are). We started speech therapy when he was 4 and went the NHS route as the referral seemed to come through reasonably quickly. He did make some progress but then went to reception class at a school with a speech therapist and she was amazing. Think what I'm saying is that 3 is still young and whilst it is good to get things checked out, it might not be the end of the world if you have to wait for the NHS (within reason)

My son had issues with delayed speech sounds that his nursery picked up when he was 3 - they found they were having difficulties understanding him. We paid for a report from Jen Warwick, to tide us over until his NHS appointment came through. With hindsight, I am not sure Jen's report was strictly necessary other than for our peace of mind - in the end the end, after we chased Sunshine House, the NHS appointment came through quite quickly. He then had input from both his NHS and school SALT and daily speech work sessions with the teaching assistant at school until he was signed off when he was 6. Just to add, there is a well known correlation between delayed speech sounds and dyslexia.

Obviously may not be a problem for you, but worth keeping an eye on (my son is being referred for the early dyslexia screening programme at school, but we also have a family history of dyslexia).

Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you want to know more.

    • I’m currently conducting exploratory research into menstrual health education in UK secondary schools and would really value the insight of PSHE leads, Heads of Year, or pastoral staff.    The research aims to understand:   How the menstrual cycle is currently taught within the RSHE framework Where schools feel confident — and where there may be gaps Whether students are taught and  asking questions around the full menstrual cycle, symptoms, wellbeing and conditions such as PMS/PMDD or endometriosis How schools support students in feeling empowered to understand their bodies and seek help appropriately Whether education around nutrition, lifestyle, and menstrual wellbeing is currently addressed   The long-term goal is to explore whether there is a need for additional, age-appropriate, medically informed support on the menstrual cycle.  I’m not selling a programme and there is no obligation beyond a 30 minute informal chat online (Unpaid). All conversations will be confidential and used only to inform the research. If you work in a UK secondary school and would be willing to share your perspective, I would be extremely grateful to hear from you. Please comment below or email me [email protected] Thank you for the vital work you do. Best wishes, Emma
