  1. I don’t think it’s fully out yet- apparently it’s been quite hard to access the collapsed building. We keep getting periods of strong smelling acrid smoke and then it goes away- assume it’s when they manage to open up parts that are still burning until they extinguish that part. Must be really awful for those living nearby.
  2. Southwark cyclists also a lobby group- the fact they meet with the council isn’t a surprise. I’m sure if you dig into this further there are lots of lobby groups trying to put their point across - but I’m still confused why people on this thread think that one dulwichs website map of their mailing list makes them any more valid than other lobby groups - eg it doesn’t mean they’re representative stakeholders
  3. Well- it’s just the certainty that ‘clean air dulwich’ have met with cllrs on many occasions stated here by Heartblock, set against the overarching position on this thread that the council have ‘finally’ met with One Dulwich. Both are lobby groups so can see that they would want to meet to put their views forward but I’m not clear that a website depiction of their mailing list makes One Dulwich more ‘official’ than anyone else, or indeed that Clean Air Dulwich have been given different levels of access!
  4. How many meetings have One Dulwich had with the council vs Clean Air Dulwich @heartblock ? this isn’t information that I’ve seen, so would be interested in understanding. One Dulwich do make much of how many people they represent though which may or may not correlate to email sign ups!
  5. Have Clean Air Dulwich met with cllrs? Also how are they less of a group than One Dulwich? Genuinely interested in the distinction. Also I was under the impression from here that One Dulwich had been in numerous meetings with either cllr Rose , highways and now McAsh. Isn’t this the case?
  6. As it stands there aren't really any shops on Melbourne Grove that promote browsing - just the vintage clothes place - the rest are appointment type places. If the drop wine bar opens and the coffee shop is open more with evening opening too then perhaps there are more local options to benefit for an increased footfall. Even the ones that are closed weren't places that you'd have browsed - chemist, locksmith and a hairdressers!
  7. Yes cyclists can be dangerous if they pass through the square quickly. Most don't - some do. The design was better before as the planters naturally slowed those coming down Calton. Now there is nothing to slow people coming down if they don't think they ought to. Even speeding cyclists aren't as dangerous as speeding cars, but lets face it, I'd rather not be hit by either! There's also a perception point, most people overestimate cyclist speed - especially where its road bikes with the whirring noise they make.
  8. Rockets - someone who has posted over 2000 times on this local forum pretty much on a single issue, making comments on 'lobbying' and attempting to frame it in a negative light. This is the post I saw yesterday - I thought they had edited it but it is still up they are just bombarding the council with "evidence" of an issue. One must question when these videos were recorded as the one on July 11th was clearly not recently given the heavy jackets some are wearing. This looks like a concerted effort to lobby.[
  9. Just on this idea of paying twice - hopper fares mean that you can get on unlimited busses within 1 hour and only pay once. It has actually really helped with bus travel for me, especially on routes like vauxhall to ED - means can take a 36 and then change at Camberwell for the multiple options there for example. 10. https://www.ehphysio.co.uk/about A friend of mine saw Emma and really rated her.
  11. The distribution of place demand isn't even across southwark though - so the schools most at risk of closure are more in the north. It looks as though there are fewer school age children and the effect of the pandemic will have to be considered but it may mean that the pressure on secondary will start to ease, though would still expect both charters / kingsdale etc to be over subscribed. A niche catholic primary school closing isn't really an indicator of widespread lack of demand.
  12. Riding a moped along a pavement isn't acceptable. Driving dangerously isn't acceptable. Its not a 'none event' - he has the capacity to kill someone. I've seen him often - his antics make me wince and hope that if and more probably when he does inevitably crash that he doesn't injure others too.
  13. Thank you - I guess its also once they've settled somewhere else that the move could be really disruptive.
  14. Just on this - do you mean the place came up in Easter of the year your child started in year 7 please? oimissus Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > At the point of school offer day, we were around > 60 on the waiting list for Charter ED (we live > about 1.2km from the school). > > We elected to remain on the waiting list after > December, and at the end of the Easter term were > offered a place (which we eventually declined).
  15. The maker posts on instagram as @postboxhappy I agree - they're lovely. I also love the fact they rotate them through locations as it spreads the joy!
  16. Sigh Rockets! Congratulations James - you work really hard for Goose Green and are responsive to those in your ward! 17. And suddenly after living here for years I understand why the shop is called 'sarp'!
  18. There are of course loads of other roads in East Dulwich that have had new pavements - it doesn't seem to have any system to it - its not just MG Anyway - back to the question - contact local cllrs. I know that other groups have also been pushing for zebras to be repainted as drivers speeding along EDG ( i know - hard to imagine how they manage it through the gridlock) and not stopping is an issue. I saw tweets from EDSTN Healthy Streets group on this in the past
  19. Sigh - this isn't what happened. We've been through this before, but you're not interested in facts - just owning the thread or proving that your alternate reality is correct. The lane has always been there -its a feeder into the bike box but cars used to cut across it and now can't - the right filter was nothing to do with the cycle 'lane' appearance. As for Heartblocks - the traffic was fine 20 years ago and then Southwark started messing around with the junction - there really are no words! 20. There is little point in trying rational arguments here - the data shows that traffic is down in both points raised on this thread yet posters here insist that it isn't. EDG is congested between 8-8:30, it always was. Hopefully expanding school street hours will help and if greendale becomes a school street too this could help. Better enforcement of the CPZ would be good too. Its also congested around 5-6pm. Again, this isn't new. EDG congestion on a morning is also worse westbound than east - yet constant insistence that EDG traffic is due to the ED LTNs doesn't make sense. Thankfully the candidates committing to removing the LTNs have been widely rejected so we can hopefully move forward and improve the existing measures
  21. I suspect that the people taking the legal action sold the story - there is a bizarre amount of detail in it.
  22. Welcome to the parallel universe that is the East Dulwich Forum. Pages and pages of the elections will show just how unpopular these measures are etc etc and its a chance for everyone to show they want labour out. Oh look - Labour have been re-elected. In Dulwich Village with a larger share of votes than in 2018 despite massive amounts of campaigning from Lib Dems and the Tories with the Tories essentially running on a single issue. There is a difference between people who post a lot and wider public opinion. first mate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hopefully we can now have a proper, democratic > consultation on LTNs. > > I think the vote for Labour has not been one > generally in favour of LTNs but a response to > recent events on the national stage. > > > rahrahrah Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Labour win in Dulwich Village, in a contest > widely > > touted by ?One? supporters as a referendum on > > LTNs. 23. I agree DKHbilly - i find the hoops that people are prepared to jump through to convince themselves that those saying what they want to hear amazing, but I guess that says more about them. CPR Dave - I'm hopeful the Lib Dems won't get elected - not from a political perspective as had someone like James Barber been standing I'd have been positive about him - but 'paper candidates' fielded to fill up the slots who can't be bothered to leaflet or canvass don't strike me as councillors that will be engaged and responsive.
  24. Comments about how people are looking for things to be offended at are bizarre in the face of what he said! Tristan?s comments were unacceptable but it?s just one example of how the anti LTN campaigners (Conservatives , Dulwich Alliance - though they?re essentially one and the same as Clive Rates founded the Dulwich Alliance) make offensive comments to further divide. Like this from one of their spokespeople:
  25. Interesting isn't it - you are convinced they're not popular as your echo chamber says not. My view is that there are some noisy objectors and some enthusiastic pro people but a large component of voters aren't so engaged on it and probably wonder why its still being discussed. I watched the BBC clip - linked here in case anyone else wants to see it - right at the beginning and not very long: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m00171t6/bbc-london-lunchtime-news-03052022 The other thing that struck me (apart from how many people were using the space in the background when Tristan was speaking for the Tories) was how measured his comments were for this medium, whereas locally he's been using much more polarising language to stoke division. He has now deleted it from YouTube but for a long while had a clip of him referring to Dulwich Square as 'Ground Zero'. I guess he thinks it speaks to his core support base but its beyond offensive and shows incredibly poor judgement for someone seeking public office.
