Dear parents,

For those making their applications for reception place Sept 2011, looking for a nursery or concerned about their child's current primary school and considering other options, Goose Green primary and nursery school will be holding an open morning on Monday 4th October.

There will be a tour of the whole school conducted by the headteacher Mrs Marland after which you are invited to join in the PTA coffee morning and speak to those of us with children already at the school.

Goose Green came out of special measures in the last academic year. It is our intention to become an outstanding school and an experienced, dynamic and cohesive teaching staff, strong board of governers, enthusiastic parents and delightful children are working hard to achieve that goal.

Last year we had more parents put the school as their No1 choice for a reception place than ever before. The children also achieved the school's best ever SATS results which we understand to be 10th highest in the whole of Southwark.

We are very proud of our school and invite you to come and have a look at a school that is well and truly on the up

No need to reserve a place, just come to the school gates on Tintagel Crescent about 9.15 and come through to the office.

Hope to see you there

Dear all,

just a quick reminder that this event will take place next Monday.

If you can't make it but would like to visit, there are tours/PTA coffee mornings on the first Monday of every month so still chances to visit before deadline for primary applications.

We do appreciate that this makes it hard for working parents to come and have a look around but feel that it is important to see the school during its working day. If you can never come on a Monday call the office to enquire about making an alternative appointment or PM me (I'm a mum with 2 children at the school; nursery and year 1) and/or look at our website www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org.uk.

In the last couple of years our intake has included children living off Lordship Lane, East Dulwich Grove and Grove Vale as well as The Gardens, Barry Road and Bellenden area. Of course this is only a rough guide, catchment changes every year.

The PTA were delighted to see so many of you lovely parents on today's tour. We do hope that you found it interesting and useful.

For those who couldn't make it, the next tour will be a Monday in early November (will post the date here in due course)

Alternatively please feel free to PM us with any queries or comments

Thanks

Hi, I can't believe I missed the Open Day at Goose Green. Do you know if there is another one coming up? I'm happy the school is moving in a positive direction as growing up, this school was notoriously bad. I'm hoping with the increasing number of affluent families moving into Dulwich, this school will change. I might come along to a coffee morning if ou could let me know when the next one is please?

Thanks

P

    • If it's the same one I'm thinking of, it was a little further down the road towards LL, probably where the Fresh Flower Company is today. I'd forgotten all about it, with good reason. I think it disappeared before Blue Mountain opened and became a pizza place? I once bought a carton of milk from the deli and when I opened it, it was solid. I did get my money back though.
    • But when was it posted?! I haven't posted any this year. I can't bring myself to pay the exorbitant cost of the stamps, and at least I can sort of honestly blame it on illness. If I can't hand deliver them, I send e-cards. I know it's not the same, but it's very much easier. And as for the people who still send pages of closely handwritten letters .... very admirable in terms of the hours it must have taken them to write them,  but they remind me of those spoofs eg x has just passed all their many important exams with the highest marks possible, y has just walked round the world in a week, z has just become the first person ever to be knighted twice, we are about to fly off for our fifteenth exotic holiday this year ....... Or else (or sometimes and) they are full of who has had what illnesses and accidents and other catastrophes. Is this just my relatives and distant friends? Am I somehow attracting these reams of handwritten paper?
    • Oh, I didn't know that! I didn't move here till 1991 (I think) but the NCR incarnation must have been around that time? Unless my failing memory is even worse than I thought it was, sob.
    • I just googled, and apparently there's another branch of the Soho Street Govinda's  in Theobald's Road. I had no idea.
