Can't agree more. Hostile beyond belief.

Actually all 3 drs listed on this page are very good

The reception used to be very good, though recently I had problems with one receptionist. (new?) but I got an apology

What I'd like from a good GP is someone with an enquiring mind, who's prepared to think outside the box that is NICE, with at least as keen an eye on the wellbeing of their patient as on their budget. A decent bedside manner is a bonus if the first two are in place. I've met plenty of socially proficient GP's who haven't been that good at their jobs.
If you live in SE15/Bellenden area you should consider Sternhall Lane Surgery. I think its fairly new - like a few years old. We have been there for 2 years - reception staff lovely, all the doctors we have seen are great and friendly - there are 4 main doctors and we have never had a single issue with any of them. The resident midwife Dionne is lovely, i saw her throughout my first pregnancy and it is a joy that she is my midwife in this next pregnancy. The nurse is also lovely and was very kind/thoughtful at each of our baby jab appointments. Its not hard to get appointments and we rarely wait long to get in - we had to make an urgent appointment when our daughter was very poorly recently - the GP called back within an hour and then saw us an hour or two later.

I've found Jane Cliffe of The Gardens to be very good indeed. She was very supportive through the two years that my husband battled leukaemia. I clashed with the receptionists once or twice I must admit but that was some time ago and lately they've been lovely and extremely helpful.

The practice nurse is excellent too. Painless vaccinations. Brilliant.

Nunhead Surgery on Nunhead Grove, Nunhead has some of East Dulwich in its catchment area and is wonderful; I got to be on their patients forum. They absolutely refuse to have anything but a human answer the phones (ie. none of this "Welcome to RipOff Surgery, you are now being charged for your call but you won't get to actually speak to a human till you've gone through the five options" nonsense. They have telephone consultations and the doctors do phone you when they say they will. I have been with them about 15 years and can't praise them highly enough and the surgery comes in the top three of all surgeries in Southwark when it comes to patient satisfaction.
Another vote for DMC on Crystal Palace Road (nice doctors and great midwives as well, if that may be a consideration). I'd also agree to give Melbourne Grove a big miss - they are truly dire and have the rudest reception staff I've ever come across in any profession!

I've been DMC for a few years, sometimes good experiences sometimes not so good and very frustrating.

Calling up in the morning at 8am to get an appointment is a bit of a lottery! That's if you can get through to someone and when you do to be told "we are fully booked today, call again tomorrow". On some ocassions reception staff not very helpful on the telephone.

Good points: Dr Prabhakaran is very good, she listens to what you have to say.

    • It didn't occur to me to ask. No idea if dieticians are employed within the NHS. It is just one line of enquiry among others. The GP mentioned it, not me.
    • I thought the most they sell in terms of hot food at londis is like pastries and sausage rolls and for hot drinks its like costa coffee but its always a convenience store. Doesn’t look too bad in my opinion considering that shop has been closed down ever since i moved here
    • Hi Busterb, Yesterday I turned up with a scanner & towels, hoping to take a deceased tabby down to TNV. The body was moved moments before arrival & had not been turned in to any vets, rescues or animal hospitals. I am wondering if this could have been the same cat & if someone just tried to move the tabby further away from the road. Please be warned, viewers discretion is advised. but this is what the deceased tabby looked like: https://www.facebook.com/groups/900015513463302/permalink/3729980853800073/  In any case, if you haven't been able to get someone to scan or take down to a vet, I can scan tomorrow morning.
    • Wholeheartedly recommend Aria. He was polite, responsive and sorted our leak, from an old tap on an old plumbing system, with no bother and on same day.
