South London Lofts

Loft extensions are quite the thing in East Dulwich but beware South London Lofts. They told us how much local experience they had, how focused they were etc but once the contract was signed they handed over to a company called Build London who we had never heard of and didn't know we were about to employ. 18 months after they began work we are still waiting for them to finish the snagging. It is impossible to get hold of them, they never turn up when they say and the frustrations of the build mean we wish we had never heard of them. Make sure you don't just get a start date for the work but an anticipated completion date with penalties for failure to comply. It would be quicker to train as a builder and do it yourself than use this company. You have a choice. Do NOT use South London Lofts.

We used South London lofts too. We went to it with our eyes open as there was some negative comments about their lack of communication etc. They were however substantially cheaper than other companies. We were on a tight budget. We were aware they sub contracted to Build London. I don't think this is that unusal. They were a bit painful with the snagging but I found dealing with Neringa in the admin team much easier. This is the email for her if you don't originally have it - [email protected]. Don't bother with Craig or your PM go straight to her team. She'll sort it all out. She did for us.

Although it was painful we were happy with the end results so hopefully you will get it sorted asap

    • I've not engaged in this debate so far but you can't be more wrong. In the UK our own language is English, there is a small minority who can rightly claim their language is Welsh or Gaelic, and a couple Cornish. British Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Christians, atheists etc will usually speak British, even if not their first language.  The vast majority will be able to understand English.   A small percentage, less than two percent, of people living in the UK have little or no English (census data).  It is right that in certain situations eg schools there is signage and information in other languages, providing public information. It is wrong that a political party do this, particularly one who came across as opportunist on this occasion. There is an interesting conversation about British expats living, for example, on the continent, where I expect huge swathes who can hardly say a word of French, Spanish etc.

    • Surely the biggest scandal under Blair's tenure was developments funded under the Private Finance Initiatives (PFIs) where funding came from the private sector at high rates of interest. Around £44 Bn was borrowed for projects which involved costly maintenance contracts for years into the future.
