You definitely don't have to use a payroll company... there is a way to do it yourself. I'm not sure how I'm afraid, as I use a payroll company myself for our nanny. Sorry that this is not massively helpful - I just wanted to let you know it definitely is possible :-)

It is obviously possible to do it yourself, but I have been using a nannypaye company for over 3 years now because for the sale of ?160 a year it takes a massive PITA off your hands. They do everything, including SSP or SMP if your nanny is sick long term or goes on mat leave. Dont forget you need to do the employers' NIC too. Our nanny had a second job so we had to split tax codes, etc etc and nannypaye dealt with all of it.

They also helped me deal with a redundancy situation/payment correctly and calculated all the payments due etc.

Honestly I would never do it myself...not for the cheap annual fees they charge. They are so helpful, too. I use nannypaye.co.uk

I know people who diy it, but those people have more time than me!! I'm in financial services with a tax experts mother but would still be too scared... 😊

I also use nannypaye and have done for years. Highly recommend. When in doubt we call them, on so many issues.

They do more than just do what you're asking. My nanny is on mat leave and they've sorted all of that, and are currently running 2 employees for me (my nanny and her mat cover), all for one annual subscription.

    • Thanks Penguin. It could be a coincidence. But after years of road safety being on the local agenda they finally put the crossings in months before Dulwich Estates regain the lease on The Grove.   The Estate understands there is strong local interest in improving this area and we hope to be in a position to share some exciting updates in the near future. The temporary skatepark will remain unaffected. “Temporary skatepark” is telling.
    • Back to my earlier post about familiarity.  I was in Croydon this afternoon walking between the two main stations.  Didn't feel unsafe, but there were some 'interesting' characters on the street.  Not that any were bothered with me. Not a place I'd choose to go for a bit of a fun.  Although having said that West Croydon has some cracking restaurants and the wonderfully named Saints and Sinners bar, where I once went on a corporate do - not that I did many of these. Whoops just checked and it closed a few months ago. Back on track, I never went to the Castle as I felt it was a bit rough.  How wrong was I?  Only real pub left in the area.
    • Wow Sue! I was reading your post with interest as I’ve never really felt unsafe in London and I was born here. It was just your last paragraph that derailed me and totally changed the subject matter! So unnecessary.
