So seriously, does anyone still think that Corbyn is a good opposition leader? Really?

Yep, he promised Tfl fares would be frozen for four years and they have been. He never promised that DfT fares would be frozen, as he can't. I refer the honorable gentleman to Mr.Khan's mayoral manifesto (direct quote): "I will freeze all TfL fares and charges for the Mayor?s cycle hire scheme for four years." That's what he promised, that's what he's done. Those who point at the DfT fares, over which he has no control, going up are accusing him of reneging on a pledge he never made.

He did, but only in the same way as others did, in their "broaden the debate" initiative (admittedly it looks like a bloody silly thing to have done now). SK didn't vote for Corbyn in the leadership election.

Hmmm. Dontcha just wish them Lib Dem 'traitors' were still holding the balance of power? We wouldn't be in this Brexit mess, for a start.

I've been trying to find a link to the results- do you have one by any chance?

"Anthony Wells, Research Director at YouGov told The Huffington Post UK: ?In short, looking at any measure of polling Jeremy Corbyn is doing badly as Labour leader, but it?s by no means unprecedented.... Gordon Brown and Nick Clegg were both perceived far more negatively than Corbyn.""

I want him to go but let's keep it real.

Thanks

Genuine question, would Clive Lewis be a good leader? He seems to tick a lot of boxes - particularly having served in Afghanistan, which would really confuse the Daily Mail when they tried to attack him as unpatriotic.

"He's a disaster, but who would people like to see succeed him? If there was an obvious, strong, alternative candidate he'd have been replaced already."

I think the view of the majority of the PLP is that any alternative candidate would be likely to do a better job than Corbyn, but he hasn't been replaced because the current membership of the Party at large support him. The selection of someone like Clive Lewis, a self-proclaimed "unashamed socialist" but without the baggage of someone like J McDonnell or D Abbott, would at least allow Labour to have a go at being a real left wing party but with a competent leader. I still don't think they would have a prayer of winning a GE but likely to be a lot better at being an effective opposition.

I suspect a lot of the PLP have decided to just try to hang one and let brexit move on a bit.

If Lewis took over now he'd be slaughtered for voting against article 50 (not by me, but I don't matter).

So, all the Labour MPs who defied Corbyn are now going to be given a written warning. And not just any old written warning... a *formal* written warning.

I bet they are trembling in their boots. That'll learn them.

It looks increasingly likely they will lose Stoke to UKIP. Very incisive on the ground report in the FT today - their campaign in total disarray. FT thinks they might even lose the other one to the Tories.

Time for the reasonable ones to rally round Clarke and form a centre party. The days of the dual-party system are coming to a rapid end.

    • I wonder where he could be deported to, Hungary the obvious candidate in Europe, perhaps he would get on well with Modi?   Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage both said Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood should look at whether Abd El Fattah's citizenship could be revoked to enable his swift removal from the UK. Farage said in a letter to Mahmood: "It should go without saying that anyone who possesses racist and anti-British views such as those of [Mr Abd El Fattah] should not be allowed into the UK." So just racists views are ok Nige?

    • If it's the same one I'm thinking of, it was a little further down the road towards LL, probably where the Fresh Flower Company is today. I'd forgotten all about it, with good reason. I think it disappeared before Blue Mountain opened and became a pizza place? I once bought a carton of milk from the deli and when I opened it, it was solid. I did get my money back though.
    • But when was it posted?! I haven't posted any this year. I can't bring myself to pay the exorbitant cost of the stamps, and at least I can sort of honestly blame it on illness. If I can't hand deliver them, I send e-cards. I know it's not the same, but it's very much easier. And as for the people who still send pages of closely handwritten letters .... very admirable in terms of the hours it must have taken them to write them,  but they remind me of those spoofs eg x has just passed all their many important exams with the highest marks possible, y has just walked round the world in a week, z has just become the first person ever to be knighted twice, we are about to fly off for our fifteenth exotic holiday this year ....... Or else (or sometimes and) they are full of who has had what illnesses and accidents and other catastrophes. Is this just my relatives and distant friends? Am I somehow attracting these reams of handwritten paper?
