Blah - unfortunately, I think Trump had and has a complete ?understanding of the significance of what his words at that DC rally caused?.

It?s why he said those words, no doubt.

I think Trump hates the American Govt structures and the establishment. He wants to piss all over it and burn it down at the same time (probably a challenge in literal terms !).

None of it serves him anymore so damn it, destroy what?s there to be destroyed.

I think there?s more to come IF his enablers continue to do just that, bend over to any and all demands and facilitate further harm to the US.

The irony for me is that those who buy into conspiracy theories like Q-Anon, espouse the idea of a deep state etc. But when you look at the photo above, you see who that deep state really is. It is politicians, some of whom they bat for, and media outlets, like Breitbart (Raheem Kassam and great defender of Tommy Robinson in that photo too), and wealthy businessmen that bankrolled Brexit etc etc. The whole thing is a con. They are the swamp.

Nige and Don discuss the merits of the latest IPA...

A bit too much on the dark side for my liking, I'll stick with the blondes

Beg to differ, the generic American IPA is totally overflavoured fizz made in beer factories not small artisan breweries in Oregan. Twenty odd years ago it was very different. A small brewer from the UK, Peter Austin, revolutionised the craft beer industry in the states being credited with the setting up of 74 small breweries there. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/jan/09/peter-austin Trouble is after a week of this type of beer, or a week of Meantime, you just want something more subtle - British ale, or even German or Czech lager.

So you go out to a trendy pub or bar and there are six fizzy expensive beers on tap, 5 to 6 % all overhopped American IPA styles. Some zingy with lemon, or worse still with flowers in them.

But it's another great example of emperor's new clothes - like krispy kremes and harabo sweets. the food of the devil

I am sure others can tell us of the good old days of ice cider/lager, alcopops and tasteless Mexican style beer with a lime in it.

I enjoyed my beer drinking in the states in the last century, and came across the most wonderfully stocked off license in the world in Colorado with both new and old world beers. They almost had a heart attack as one of us opened their can of beer - NO THIS IS NOT AN OPEN LIQUOR STATE (ie you cannot consume alcohol in public)

Not sure how this thread got onto American beer.

Well it's obviously becuase people were lied to by a sign on a bus which said we would get 350m quid worth of beer a week from Trump. And no one knew what type of Trump they were voting for, so they decided to all eat chlorinated chicken with their beer. But the chickens all turned out to be rascist chickens, and the colour of the boxes the beer came in was red, when everyone who voted really wanted blue boxes of beer. FInally everyone had had too much beer (including Trump) and it was decided that people that didn't drink beer were a total bunch of covfefe's.....

Of course that decision was only advisory....so ignore all of that....

Anyway to return to the subject, I've done lots of marches in the past, the odd one turning nasty (poll tax being the best example) and was in Whitehall when a few thousand students were kettled there in 2010, but never experienced a situation where the police were not able to maintain control. Wasn't at Luton when Millwall ran the OB but that is another story.

Be interesting to hear why they were so poorly prepared.

Have another look Seabag, I wasn't the one to raise Brexit and shoehorn it into this thread.

I thought we were just all raising contrived and tenuous links between trump and brexit, so just wanted to join in with the cool kids.

No, I think Seabag?s got it right here.

You didn?t have to go down that route, you just wanted to because it makes you feel better.

But hey, you do you - you always have. Don?t know why anyone?s surprised.

Meanwhile back in America most senators and commentators criticise the president while leaving him sat there in office.

Even Kayleigh Macaney (sp.) made an appearance to condemn the actions 'on behalf of the entire White House', though whether she did that as 'press secretary', an 'independent commentator', or the 'campaign advisor', remains unclear this time !

Based on everyone's responses so far I'm guessing nothing will change, Trump will do whatever he wants to do next because no-one will stop him, they'll all just try to forget the whole episode when he leaves office, and the next BLM march will get smashed to bits as the police show they can mobilise 'when necessary'.

yeah but few (not enough) republicans are being vocal and I think the VP has to initiate, hence Pelosi threatening to start impeachment proceedings.

Realistically, I think they're scared to use amendment25 and there's some complexity (clause4) which would cause loads of delay/obstacles.

    • It doesn't matter what channel it was on, how pernicious the subject is and when it happened. Mis-representing the truth in broadcast is not only morally wrong, it's against the OFCOM code of ethics.  Everyone in the industry is trained in how not to do it, most are made to take the BBC's own 'Safeguarding the Trust' course, even if they aren't making BBC programmes.  There wasn't much fuss at the time, because no one knew about it.  "Unless you hate Britain, hate liberals, hate the BBC, want a divided country, support the most powerful person in the world despite his many failings". What the programme makers personally think or feel should never affect how they tell a story; to do so is deeply unprofessional and a sackable offence.  It's the job of the BBC and of all programming to inform viewers of the facts and let them make up their own minds. Even in campaigning documentaries.
    • Hadn't realised that the Panorama programme that people are up in arms about was over a year ago.  There wasn't much fuss at the time so why drag it up.  Unless you hate Britain, hate liberals, hate the BBC, want a divided country, support the most powerful person in the world despite his many failings. The programme was clumsy, but the vast majority of us know that Trump had an influence.  So the Telegraph has played into his hands.
    • I tried a Lime bike once, too heavy and bulky for me but I understand that many really like them.  And very much support the concept.
