A Chinese six-fold floor-standing screen.


Description

In coromandel lacquer style, decorated on one side in mother of pearl inlay with scenes of noble figure in courtly interiors, between fylfot diaper & shou roundel bands at top & bottom, the reverse with orange angel fish swimming amongst aquatic weeds. It is very heavy.

Extra Notes

These screens have been produced roughly in this format since the 17th century at least, & are still being made today. I suspect this one might have been bought new - perhaps in a department store - in the 1950's.

    • A long overdue review for Niko who we have used a number of times over the years, sometimes to properly finish a job that other plumbers have not done properly. He thinks of everything! I only ever use another plumber if it's urgent and Niko is away. A really kind and thoughtful man and totally trustworthy 
    • At the time of posting previously, we had no idea of the dates we would be having the children. The maths place - you pay for a course of lessons . The coding session would be good but you need to book well in advance. Also grandson has been doing coding since 6 years old. He now has a 'mentoring role' at his primary school as his knowledge of this subject is years above his chronological age. Dates are still up in the air as their father is trying to juggle leave from a new job in the north of the country. 
    • why not have a pasty shop - we could have Cornish pasties, Jamaican patties, empanadas from all the different regions.... I like all three.  I'm still going to support the Chacarero family business, as I don't support chains, just as I don't buy anything from Gail's, Nero, Starbucks etc.
    • Thought it had been a fish and chip shop at one time?
