Pondicherry - long shot; anyone been there in last year or two ?

Recommended Posts

Haven't been for several years so my previous experience will be past it's sell by date and wondering if anyone's any up-to-date tips.

Mainly around accommodation, but also food plus anything else local.

Heading over in April. Will be in Tamil Nadu too, but chiefly I'm interested in Pondicherry initially.

KK you have made me incredibly nostalgic for life in India which I miss very much! Used to be able to drive to Pondi for the weekend. Afraid I'm not best placed to answer your questions as been too long ago for me also.

Villa Shanti is good, also stayed in the Dupliex, lovely old houses with traditional furniture. Will ask my friends in tamil nadu/karnataka for tips, one of them has recently returned from a weekend there.

Did you go to Auroville before?

hi numbers - yeah i'll be heading up to auroville. Will possibly being staying in one of the Aurovind ('no intoxicants') guest houses on the seafront, in which case I'll be choking at ?20 per night for a delux double.

I'll check out the accom places you've mentioned tho - cheers. Any tips from your friends will be appreciated !

    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
    • Yes, but I want to know where he stands on all this stuff now. My feeling is it won't be any different from Labour?
