KK you have made me incredibly nostalgic for life in India which I miss very much! Used to be able to drive to Pondi for the weekend. Afraid I'm not best placed to answer your questions as been too long ago for me also. Villa Shanti is good, also stayed in the Dupliex, lovely old houses with traditional furniture. Will ask my friends in tamil nadu/karnataka for tips, one of them has recently returned from a weekend there. Did you go to Auroville before?

Dovertheroad - I was hoping the venerable HonaloochieB would come back to post on this thread to provide expert and humorous analysis of just how inferior Walkers crisps are Was it quids who said Golden Wonder not as good as Walkers? Madness. (Shakes head). GW FAR superior and still going strong in Scotland. Recently tried their haggis flavour - perfect. Mackies crisps also Scottish brought out a haggis & cracked black pepper flavour (rolls eyes). Nowhere near as good as GW plus everyone knows it's white pepper with haggis. Pickled onion & Worcestershire sauce are available too. Interested to hear if Discos salt & VIOLENTKY vinegar are still around. There used to be EXTREME vinegar flavour in separate sachets but can't remember brand, anyway I digress.

this is one of those threads where I groan inwardly to see them resurrected in the lounge and fervently hope I haven't made a complete arse of myself earlier in the year. you got more than a few right there quids.

There was a massive power cut along the north norfolk coast today too. It's a conspiracy to get everyone to buy more candle so that they can embrace hygge.

I was being tongue in cheek but really it's a bit preposterous to be surprised that anyone with an oven would eat out regularly for Sunday roast. There's truth in that if you like Indian food thrn it's not a huge leap to have most of the common spices already to hand, they last well in the store cupboard and are versatile. Perhaps this is a reflection of my cooking skills but I know Sunday roasts are not as easy as they appear. I think they are better made by more than one person. Someone skivvying over the veg whilst the other cooks the meat and gravy. Timing veg (as this thread demonstrates) and preparing it no matter how enjoyable can be a chore. cooking rice is easy. Pour enough boiling water over to cover it. Turn off heat. Don't stir. Bobs your uncle. Or get a rice cooker god knows there are enough recommendations on here ;) Once you've ground all the spices for a curry paste you can freeze it for next time. Or cook the whole lot at once and freeze the entire meal. That's handy for one person.

Agreed artful. Had to suffer auld Lang syne playing in a local shop recently. Made me want to make a swift exit which I'm sure is not their intention. The party snacks are making me feel quite ill just looking at them. Avoid supermarkets if you can just buy what you need. Fashion magazines are all about the perfect party outfit and how to transform your day look into evening. Ad nauseum.

it was very frosty and wintery today so I put a (Christmas) wreath on the front door, that is it now?the genie has been let out of the bottle. who knows, by the weekend I could be in my christmas PJs. Now where is my Christmas mistletoe jumper..?

jeez I am so jealous of all the bloody choice you EDers have for pub Sunday roasts!!! Sue I think there are just some things that can never be as good as at home, roast potatoes being one. the other er?french toast.
