This was one of my favourite groups when on maternity leave. They have the most gorgeous books and toys. They lay them out in themes - so a little animal area, with toys and books about animals; trains, music, etc., etc. At the LL estate one there is tons of space (or there was when it was in the Albrighton (sp?) Centre) with mats, so crawlers and toddlers can explore. For older kids there is a craft area where they make something related to whatever the theme that week is. And, yes, you can get a Southwark library card and borrow the books while there.

At the end there is a group story related to the theme and singing.

The people who run it are very friendly and will chat with everyone there, even when they're busy. I went lots of times on my own and never felt uncomfortable.

In my opinion Book Start and Whippersnappers are the best groups going!

t=its the same as you describe alieh with the areas laid out etc, its a really good session and loved taking my little one there until she started nursery and they clashed. it starts at 10 but if its very busy they have to stop people coming in, think they are allowed 30. so id get there by 9.55am to get in. went a few times at 10.15 and it was already full.

really worth giving it a try though, will be back once number 2 arrives.

    • Really interesting discussion here. It's difficult to respect the views of people who support Farage, Trump, Musk etc. Why should we, when their views are deplorable. But then that exact 'deplorable' label, as we know, is counterproductive and drives people to double down / switch off to more progressive views. How do you actually help change minds? We're currently spiralling into dark places culturally and politically imo. The amount of open racism, even amongst front line politicians here and in the US is astounding to me. Feels like we're going backwards. The influence of social media and the tech billionaires / bros, is a powerful and largely malignant one. There was an enlightening (and frightening) bit of journalism by Sky this week about Musk's influence on British politics. He has a strange obsession with the UK and London in particular (as do many on the US right wing): https://news.sky.com/story/the-x-effect-how-elon-musk-is-boosting-the-british-right-13464487
    • Looking for any tickets to the Dulwich Hamlets game against St Albans today!
    • I'm going to Paris with friends, staying in the 3rd arrondissement. I used to go a lot but that was ages ago so wondered if anyone has any 'insider tips'? We are interested in small art galleries, independent shops, good value cafes and restaurants that may not feature in all the many online articles or guides, thanks!
    • Hi, My two years old nephew is a complete bookworm and we are looking for more books for him. Is anyone selling or giving away any books please?    Thank you.
