Baby Carriers 12 months + ??

Hi we had the baby bjorn carrier when little one was born which was lovely.. I'm just wondering if people can recommend a carrier for a child 12 months+ or would should we not bother? baby duchess is still crawling dont think she will be walking till about 14 months......

Personally, I loved the Ergo for that age and even now (my son is two and 35 lbs, so very big).

Another vote for the Ergo - can use for front or back carry, small to transport when not using (will go in shopping basket of buggy etc.) and I've even managed to sling a 5 year old in it and carry her on my back for a short period. They are brilliant.

The Ergo website has good videos showing various ways to carry baby in them.

I love my Ergo - at 6 months, when I was really sick of spending money on neverending baby kit, I really questioned whether it would be worth it, but carrying our massively chunky son in the baby bjorn was instantaneously painful. I did loads of research and picked up the Ergo on ebay, and it has been a very worthwhile investment. My NCT group tried it with their babies and asked incredulously 'but where does the weight go?'. My son (still chunky) is now going on 13 months, and I can imagine using it for many many more months. Invaluable for airports, errands where you're in and out of the car and can't be bothered to get the pram out, supermarkets, and, what I originally envisaged using it for, walks in Sydenham Woods. I have to say I also love the intimacy of feeling his heartbeat next to mine, and being able to whisper gossip in his ear as we are out and about.

another vote for the ergo - have been obsessed with mine ever since it was the only place my baby would fall asleep when she was first born, and now she is 6 months, i don't know how i would get on with my day without it! ergo rules!

It is also great if you want to go into town without the buggy, say at a weekend with your partner - you sort of need 2 adults - one to carry the bag of bits and bobs you need when on a day out, and one to carry the child in the sling when needed. You can get a bag that fits onto the Ergo if need be, but we don't have it, and if carrying baby in sling plus bag I always end up feeling like a pack horse!!

We had a day out in town recently with both girls (6 and 2), and actually our 2 year old toddled happily all day, and only went in the sling for an hours nap over lunch, and at the end of the day when we were trying to move fairly quickly to get back to London Bridge to get the train home.

is there any benefit from the "sport " model? im going to order an ergo im tired of getting the pram out when all i need to do is run to the shops for something.

I'd recommend the Rose and Rebellion. My best friend has one, she's used it every day for 3 months and hasn't used her pram since. Her daughter is 15 months old. I tried it out with my son on my back, loved it, bought one.

There are other more decorative ergo type slings as Ruth says - love the Rose and Rebellion prints - also the beco, babyhawk Oh Snap (we have the camo and I much prefer it to the ergo for front carrying), connecta, sleepy nico, etc...

We have had both a regular ergo and sport ergo in the past. The regular one is more of a canvas material, the sport is a lighter cotton and has a longer waist strap. It def takes practice to get them on your back, but front carrying is easy peasy.
