What about this Tram link thingy ?

Recommended Posts

It would have it's own lane.

The proposed tram route connects areas of huge opportunity in Southwark where large scale regeneration programmes are already underway. During peak periods the trams will depart every four minutes and will interchange with 12 underground stations and four major rail stations.

Tram is good idea as the buses are soooo slow through walworth/camberwell! The separate lane may slow down other traffic, but that would encourage more people to use public transport and cut down on pollution.

ED may have missed out on the east london line tube extension, but its only a quick bus ride up to forest hill (depending what end of LL you are - I'm up Barry Rd end).

Hello - the campaigners aren't campaigning against the tram, they think that a good idea - just the plans to put the tram depot smack in the middle of Peckham. TFL are being quite sneaky about not publicy consulting on their plans for a depot in Peckham but the Bellenden Residents have their plans and are campaigning virgously against it. My understanding is that it would destroy alot of central Peckham including the cinema, woolies and all the residential amd commericial property behind there. It would be a huge area, fenced off and would destroy quite alot of established businesses and residences - including some new flats that have recently been built and artists studios. It wouldn't add anything to Peckham and could be quite damaging to an area which is just starting to find its feet.

The tram itself is a great idea - it will stop quite close to Peckham Rye Station so if you don't want to walk down there (it takes me 8 minutes to walk to Peckham Rye Station) you can always hop on the train at ED station and change. I don't have a car and I have a child and I find ED great for transport - and living within walking distance of Peckham Rye is great because you have an even bigger choice of public transport

Beth - "It will destroy alot of cental Peckham" - Your problem is .................?!

Bellenden have received HUGE mounts of public and private investment over the past years - to deny that opportunity to other parts of the area sees a bit mean spirited.

The fact that central Peckham will be re-built is a good thing. Woolies and the cinema are not things of beauty and the development of Peckham as transport node would see alot more businesses (including a new cinema and Woolies)and housing in the area, more than replacing those that were lost.

    • Hope you all had a happy Christmas & good New Year  Here are your Gardening Tips  for February . Their not too long, but they need doing if you are to have a good garden this year  1. Pruning.  Before the birds need a nest prune your hedges especially the deciduous ones . Important to still prune Roses . Cut back Rose bushes hard to a bud & creating a rounded plant . Prune your trees before the sap rises especially Buddleja Hydrangeas hardy Fuschias Lavatera Bay Leylandii You can cut back Spring flowering tree’s after they have flowered later in Spring  Prune climbing plants like Virginia creeper & Ivy very hard . Remember they will grow back prolifically  You can prune Wisteria twice a year & February is one of them . Cut back the whips (smaller branches) to 3 buds before the main stems . You can prune a few of the thicker stems to give the plant shape & form. Give it a feed if you want it to flower  Cut back any grasses so they can grow in Spring  Prune Jasmines & winter flowering Jasmines. They will reward you with beautiful smelling flowers during Spring & Summer    2 If it ever gets dry again mow your lawn at top height of your mower. Repair patches & trim all borders with a half moon spade . It’s a good time of year to lay new lawns levelling the ground adding sand feed & topsoil    Power wash your patios paths & wooden structures & furniture. You can then give them an appropriate treatment when they have dried out  That’s it for now. I told you it wasn’t too long, Do these if you can, but if you want someone to carry it out for you, I recommend any of the we’ll recommended gardeners on the forum including myself & my colleagues  Please give me a call on :  07759862191. • Another recommendation for Greg.  He provided excellent service - fast response, quote and then fitting the job in.  The inbuilt wardrobes he made are of a very high quality and he was a pleasure to work with.  Helped us with some additional shelving and a broken floorboard too.  Highly recommend!
