I'd love to hear from anyone who is home schooling - our son is Year 9 and he goes to an online school, InterHigh, with real teachers and classmates. It's a great alternative to full on home schooling and he hated traditional school so we had to move on from there. We'd love to find others to meet up with locally. Do email me if you're interested.

Have you ever considered online schooling?

If you'd like to find out more about online school please do contact me. It's solved our school problems and stress. There are some drawbacks but it's great that he's following full KS3 curriculum to take IGCSE's, subject teachers and small classes with lovely students from all over the world (and also fairly nearby!). Best of all he loves it even though school never closes for snow!

Good that he enjoys it and is taking GCSE's too!!

I was home schooled from year 9, my sister from year 8 and my brother from year 2. Me and my sister opted out of taking our GCSEs, doubt my brother will do them either to be honest. Home schooling never worked for me and my sister as we refused to learn at home (we were removed from school and moved 100+ miles away from 'our lives' - rebellion). My brother up until recently has been doing online maths via Carol Vorderman, he should now be in year 8. My mum and dad took an extremely laid back route to home schooling and it was all online. My brother got involved in many activities outside of education such as swimming and scouts etc. We were inspected every few months and education inspector was always happy with progress regardless of lack of key stage curriculum. He is above and beyond his peers and a very intelligent young boy who seems to have learnt everything gradually and at his own pace.

Best of luck to you with it all. I'm sure there are plenty of home schoolers in Dulwich area, forum is just a bit quiet after Christmas.

lovely to hear from you and I'd be very happy to tell you more about InterHigh .... do give me a call or email after the new year and perhaps we could meet for coffee or you could even come up and see what it's all about.

My tel is 07963 046 456 so look forward to hearing from you soon,

best wishes, Kristin

    • https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
    • Hi there  We live on Woodwarde Road backing on to Alleyns Top Field.  Our cat Gigi has gone missing — it’s been about 24 hours now. She is a cream Bengal. Could you please check sheds, garages, or anywhere she might have got stuck please? And if you could keep an eye out or share on any local groups/forums, we’d really appreciate it. Photo attached.   Thanks so much! My name is Jeff on 07956 910068.
    • Colin.    One for the old school.   Just saying.
    • Signed, and I will share it elsewhere, thank you for posting this. It's got nearly 70,000 signatures at present, and apparently runs till February.
