Gidleigh Park in Devon (not even slightly London!) - very good food indeed, service good and very friendly, hotel lovely and views incredible. But a long way and nail-pullingly expensive.

Hawksmoor at Seven Dials - brilliant steak and very good cocktails. Nice decor but atmosphere still very "working dinner".

'MEATEASY - FINALLY GOING TOMORROW NIGHT. I'M VERY EXCITED.

Gaulthier in Soho. French influenced and great food. you can choose 3,4 or 5 courses, hand made chocolates thrown in at the end of the meal. There is also a tasting menu (both a meat and vegetarian version). The menu is a seasonal one and they have a Norfolk wild garlic risotto on at the moment which is delicious> Service is discreet but attentive and the Sommelier is very good and doesnt just recommend the most expensive wine. Its not cheap but it is a lovely treat.

Has anyone tried the 'Harvester' on 'Lordship Lane' yet?

We chose from the 'earlybird' menu (I wasn't paying - birthday treat!!) and started by sharing a 'harvest festival' platter. The flame-grilled corn on the cob was a little bland, but the onion rings more than compensated!

For mains, we struck-out on our own with an eye for the exotic: I with Cajun chicken burger, and her with the 'plantation platter' - a real taste of India!

Fruit skewers and an Irish coffee apiece- served in its own vase - made for a perfect ending.

Recommended.

I went by myself for lunch recently. It was bloody marvellous. Hot as in spicy, but really, really good.

    • At the time of posting previously, we had no idea of the dates we would be having the children. The maths place - you pay for a course of lessons . The coding session would be good but you need to book well in advance. Also grandson has been doing coding since 6 years old. He now has a 'mentoring role' at his primary school as his knowledge of this subject is years above his chronological age. Dates are still up in the air as their father is trying to juggle leave from a new job in the north of the country.
    • why not have a pasty shop - we could have Cornish pasties, Jamaican patties, empanadas from all the different regions.... I like all three.  I'm still going to support the Chacarero family business, as I don't support chains, just as I don't buy anything from Gail's, Nero, Starbucks etc.
    • Thought it had been a fish and chip shop at one time?
    • Try Gentrification, those with more money than sense who constantly want something different, when pie and mash isn't good enough for them.  "Argentinian Cornish pasties" give3 me a proper Cornish pastie any day of the week, at least I'd be supporting something traditionally British.   ps. tin hat at the ready........................🤣
