shygirl
I can see there are some comments regarding charity collectors or chuggers outside Somerfield on Lordship Lane.I'd just like to say on the positive side, I met a lovely chap collecting on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Care today. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the gentleman's name, but he was so polite and charming. Not to mention the fact he is 86 years of age and was out in the snow and freezing weather. He may be known already to many of you, but I have nothing but admiration for this chap, as i've seen him collecting many times over the years. legalbeagle
Shygirl - to be fair the comments today were about a charity collector inside co-op pestering people in the middle of their shopping with exremely inappropriate comments. I'm sure that this person is not at all in the category of the gentleman you mention who appears to be giving up his spare time for a charity, and doing so in an entirely charming and appropriate way. No issue here. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14868-marie-curie-charity-collector-lordship-lane/#findComment-393133 Share on other sites
peterstorm1985
There is a massive difference between chuggers (who are usually paid) and those who give up their spare time to shake a tin on the street. Very heartening to see a positive posting amongst all the moaning on this forum (and that includes me before anyone picks me up on it). Red_Cat
I also encountered this gentleman today and was very impressed by his dedication in the freezing cold weather, he had by this time moved inside the co-op but was extremely polite and charming and people seemed more than happy to donate, he actually brightened up my day.
