Hello

My daughter is starting Yr 7 Sept and is a bit worried about getting the bus there on her own (not sure why, it's not far but she will have only just turned 11 when she starts) so wondered if anyone's daughter will be bussing it (think it would be the 76) from Peckham Rye/Nunhead area that she could walk to bus stop/get on bus with? Thanks

I'm sure if you practice the journey with her she'll be perfectly fine. ?You have plenty of time. Put an app on her phone so when knows when the next bus is coming.

It's daunting as she's still at primary school but their world will change in a day once they reach Y7.

I'd enrolled my daughter for a school bus, which we didn't actually ever use. I took her on her first day and by the end of that day she wanted to make her own way home.

My daughter is also starting there in Yr 7. Worried about the same prob' as you esp' as she's so young as well. There is no easy bus route either. She will have to take 2 buses there with a bit of walking in between.

I looked into using the school coaches but the closest stop is 18 mins walk away! You could check if the school coaches go past your road.

Hi MAK

Same problem for us re school coaches but I contacted the coach company (feeling slightly ridiculous as JAGs is really not far from us) and they are looking into putting in an extra stop close to us so might be worth contacting them esp if your daughter has to get two buses? My daughter only has one bus to catch so it's pretty easy really. I think like Jules says above she will be totally fine after a couple of days (if she ends up doing the bus which I think she will) - most London kids have to take public transport to get to secondary school and they'll get used to it quickly. I think it's more nerves about getting to know people as only one other person going from her state primary.

My daughter is the only one going from her state primary but hopefully, she will settle in quickly esp' as they have a bonding trip in Sept.

Lol - I too felt a little ridiculous asking the coach company as we don't live far from JAGs. However, I'd prefer her to go by the school coach only for safety reasons and a peace of mind esp' for the first year. (The recent Goose Green School attempted child kidnapping incident keeps creeping to mind sadly.)

I'll contact the coach company again to ask if they can put in an extra stop. Thank you so much for the suggestion.

Best of luck to your daughter in Sept. :)

    • I’m not an expert either but surely having that high of affordable housing would seem like a terrible investment. My guess is that they will pay southwark a fine then make the rest of it student housing too
    • For some strange reason, hubby likes to spend 'big' on family cards birthday and Christmas. I think it may have stemmed from his mother- she equated money with status and was a bit of a snob!  She was also quite eccentric - we asked for a suitcase one year and got a set of 4. One year she gave hubby the equivalent of a hearing aid - it was a device to hear bird song. Nobody we know send expensive cards. We have a twice yearly set of cards from the Foot and Mouth Painting Artists and have done for the last 30 plus years. I think they are around £12 for set of 10  - cannot remember what we paid this winter but they are fantastic value and beautiful paintings.  One of the best places around to buy cards is the Fair Trade Centre at Christ Church Barry Road. Fantastic selection with a starting price of £1.30.
