When my daughter (now 7) was around the same age as your son, we used to have a small group of singleton children from the Forum that we met up with for playdates occasionally. Just as having twin/multiples has special challenges, I think having a singleton child has its own challenges. As our children got older and started preschool and reception, their worlds widened, and things got easier (or well, at least, the challenges became different!).


I hope you find some lovely families for 'only child' playdates. It was a great comfort, getting to know others, and learning about how they navigate the world as 'only parents'. We all had different reasons for having just one, and that was eye-opening. It was also great to see that the myths about only children (spoiled, lonely, etc) are clearly NOT true. xx

We are an 'only' family. My daughter is 5 and is at school in reception. She has quite a few friends that are also only children which I think helps to show her that there are other children who have no brothers or sisters just like her. To be honest we have always been up front with her about the fact that she won't have a sibling. We have always had lots of friends over, her cousins are close by and we do lots of activities like camping where she constantly meets new friends!


I really feel that being an 'only' child is somehow viewed as a negative thing. I don't agree at all, our family of 3 have so much fun, I wouldn't have it any other way.

      What ever they decide I would have thought that the skate park would not be staying but really hope I am wrong as in my minds eye, I see the skate park as potential parking spaces after all if it is going to be community, flats, retail units, cafe, etc folks are going to want to have the parking availability - Amir like the parade of shops opposite. if the skate park goes then I think it is Dulwich Estate obligation to find another suitable area… a lot of community spirit and hard work went into developing the skate park and the youngsters should be very proud of what they have done  and achieved.

      Hi all My car was stolen between 1.30pm-1.50pm today in SE22 East Dulwich in South East London. I have of course reported this to the police but not much is being done, so I thought I'd give this a shot. The registration is GM66YOV, though its possible the licence plate may have been changed by now. If you see it anywhere please contact me or the police. Thankyou!

      Years ago, got my ears pierced, alcohol on site, gun ..done.. Simple.. Gosh, surely your daughter of mothers can recommend  - do you really need to post on forum? Or maybe you home school whatever.. still recovering from shock, posted along the lines of, advice needed about adopting/ buying a dog…. Guess I am now at a age, where I should just keep quiet and pass no comment and read  postings like a “soap” - cheaper than tv licence…
