Hi, I just wondered if others shared my concerns or had similar experiences. My son is currently in a reception class at a school in the area and is generally happy there. However, he has recently had some issues with a class mate, and as a responsible parent I asked if I could discuss this with the class teacher, who seemed to know nothing of this incident. I am now aware that the class were not taught by the teacher the whole day of this incident, and indeed did not have any teacher but a teaching assistant, and apparantly this occurs on a regular basis. I am really concerned about this because as lovely as the teaching assistant is, she is not a trained teacher. I am now wondering what I should do.

It's not something that's not allowed. HLTAs in particular might regularly take the class and release the teacher for planning and preparation (each teacher gets approx 1/2 day p/w, more if they are newly qualified or hold specific responsibilities)

There isn't really an issue to raise just because a TA was in charge, more it will be specific concerns if problems arose "on her watch"

    • Ah that was it.... When you realise politicians are only ever in it for themselves then everything starts to make sense.
    • Yup. Student politics. https://bright-green.org/2012/04/09/democracy-and-direct-action-an-interview-with-edinburgh-universitys-new-student-president-james-mcash/
    • I wonder whether his political epiphany and renaissance will stretch to him using his real name - James Ashworth-McLintock - rather than the more proletarian 'McAsh'. To my mind, the only people who should have self-bestowed mononyms are very talented Brazilian footballers - Pele, Kaka, Ronaldinho - very talented female pop icons - Madonna, Shakira, Sonia - or Russian revolutionaries - Lenin, Stalin, Trotsky. Sonia's greatest hits compilation, 'Greatest Hits', is out now on vinyl & CD through PWL Recordings.
    • Probably more helpful to ask simply whether McCash was affiliated with the Greens before becoming a Labour councillor. Trying to explain your thought process and unravel your fevered imagination (particularly when it comes to local politica) is the kind of thing that might require several years of psychoanalysis.
