Have been cycling into central London for 20 years and still love it. It's possible to completely avoid main roads and avoid most of the traffic - the benhill road & Portland st route is pretty much car free. I shower before I go and take care not to wear too much, then just get changed at work. There's really no need for another shower after 25 mins on a bike.

You probably walk behind / ahead of me ;) as that's pretty much the same route I take at the moment. I USED to do the Peckham and/or east Dulwich to London Bridge then the hideous crammed northern line to Camden town journey. Hated it !

fair enough - i figured you must have discounted it for a reason. When I used to work that way the Overground wasn't up and running yet and I used to get off the 78/63 bus at Bricklayers arms and walk up and across Tower Bridge. Admittedly that's a longish walk but compared to staying on that single-decker cattle-truck all the way to Aldgate I was glad of the air

    • I'm thinking of going to India at Christmas and it's been 18 years since I last visited. So long ago, I can hardly remember where I went (I was there for 8 weeks...). Has anyone been to the South recently? I'm thinking Kerala, as we fancy some beach action.

    • Try pavement, this is London, not the US. The Mayor increased his proportion of council tax in 2025/26 to pay for "more" haha PC's but my understanding is they were cut not increased. A rouse by the Mayor to take more and give nothing in return.  Troubling and far too common here.  Just be careful where you get it out
