Is anyone else suffering from a plague of flies?

For the last couple of days they seem to have taken over our sitting room and kept the fly-swatter very busy indeed.

Oddly enough, there are none in the rest of the house (even the kitchen!).

I'm afraid there may be bad news for you. Such a localised plague is likely to be hatching of maggots which have been dining off a corpse somewhere close to your sitting room (particularly if they are large blow flies). It may be a late mouse (or even rat) under your floor boards (if they are very small flies it will be fruit flies from a bowl of fruit etc., but I'm not sure you'd be swatting fruit flies).

Do you think some hefty spraying of fly-killer in the crawl-space might do the trick?

(I suspect that a trip to Farmers is imminent!)

That might help, certainly. If it was a small animal the number of maggots it could have supported won't be that many, so the problem will resolve itself.

Lots of flies always where I live - it's the food shops.

Sorry - fly spray and they don't die - just fly back out. I appreciate it's not environmentally friendly.

Have they not made their way to the light of a window? I think they'd then be happy to exit if you open it. If you only have windows that partially open you'll have to be very patient though, given the smallness of their brains.

We bought one of to see electric zappers that are like a tennis racquet.very effective. 😁

I heard that if you use Hair Spray, their wings stick together and they drop (like flies?)

We had the big flies when we had the squirrels killed (not my doing). They were all very docile and lazy, which was odd.

Basically just swatted them and sprayed them but they mostly flew out the windows.
