Jules-and-Boo
Hi - I am laying some pipes and need to cut a channel quite deep - maybe 40-60cm but only wide enough for a pipe. What do I need?I thought a grinder to cut the edges and then a hammer drill? But I'm not sure the drill bit will be long enough. So, I thought I'd ask the EDFers before I go and get things I don't need or won't do the job.You will know, this is not my area or skillset. I want to assess the difficulty and tools required before I decide if I need to get someone (other than boyfriend and his mate) in. keano77
I would suggest you get professional advice if this is an internal job.If a floor how thick is the concrete? Despite the dirt and mess If you breach the damp course you'll be in trouble Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/155838-chanelling-into-concrete-advice/#findComment-1144841 Share on other sites
ed_pete
What diameter pipe and how long is the channel ? Using an angle grinder with a stone cutting disc isn't going to go more than the radius (of the disc) deep so about 10-15cm depending on the tool used. You could then use a hammer drill to cut a number of holes along the length the two slots and chisel out of the rest but that's going to be nowhere near deep enough and I'm assuming the width of the channel wouldn't allow you to use an angle grinder again to cut two more slots and continue. Not easy, don't envy you. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/155838-chanelling-into-concrete-advice/#findComment-1145079 Share on other sites
Jules-and-Boo
it's outside, through one meter of concrete, but don't know how deep it is.Wide enough to run a soil pipe.
