Me, earlier: "I don't think english exceptionalism is confined to the well off "

I didn't expect such a swift and un-self-aware response -- bless you Foxy "Why are they not sending money to us. London. Why are we NOT in charge. ?? "

In charge? of who exactly?? The EU is a political construct engaged in mutual cooperation. It hasn't invaded anybody. There is no single country "in charge"

"So lets not worry too much about a No Deal Brexit. Leave and get on with it." I get told off constantly for saying many leavers are ignorant - but come on people!!!!

Scarily ignorant!

Zero understanding of what makes an empire or an union

And yet so ready to spout nonsense

There is so much that is wrong with this I don't know where to start. And incredibly simplistic,

Oh they DO send money back. a lot of money in fact. I was once randomly reading the small print in one of my adult ed classes. Surprised to see of many funders the EU was one!

Ask Cornwall how much they will lose...

Thanks all for some good posts. Whilst it is recess the new regime are going hammer and tongues at this including the message that it will be the EU's fault for no deal. Daily meetings, departments on full war preparedness. Preparing for the worst and then averting disaster one way or another? May's balanced Cabinet all a million miles away and the last three years conveniently airbrushed out of Tory history.

As for Cummings is he now running the civil service?

The irony of Short Cummings is that he is an unelected bureaucrat wielding unaccountable power over the British nation, the very thing Brexiters accused the EU of. Someone who is also prepared to ignore parliamentary sovereignty, another thing Brexiters allegedly fought for. Brexit has become nothing more than a political jihadi cult...

What have you got to say about this, then, Dulwich Fox?

Child poverty cash handed back to Europe unspent

Yes.. and the E.U. tells us what we can spend it on.

Why not keep all the money we send to the E.U. and spend all of it on things we need to spend it on.

Like The NHS, Policing, Schools, restoring TV licences for the over 75's

why not actually invest a little time researching some facts and getting an understanding of the issues rather than spouting rubbish based on ignorance, that you can't even be consistent with?

There will be a GE no matter what happens. His strategy is if he No Deals then that kills off the BP and he has a much better chance of winning a GE, question then is who do Remainers vote for, especially if Labour and Lib Dems have been seen to enable No Deal, which is looking likely if they won't form a temp GNU to stop ND...

Dulwich Fox, do you realise how much money is being spent on Brexit?

Before it has even started?

In order for a good government to exist, one needs a strong opposition to act as a counter weight. It astounds me that Jeremy Corbyn states that the Conservatives are in trouble, yet the Labor party are now on par with the lib dems.

Remove Corbyn, get someone in that appeals to Labor's true heartland and not the champagne socialists. Offer solutions that don't always start with 'tax the wealthy more'. This is nothing more than a tagline.

One of the ironies of the Brexit parliamentary voting is that all nine options were defeated which shows that people either won't compromise OR there is too much confusion. Given that it was a non binding referendum, don't make it binding but acknowledge that the UK is divided on this issue and discuss ways of unifying this great country taking into account peoples beliefs

Eh?

I joined the Labour Party precisely because Corbyn was bringing it back to its core principles!

Who do you think will "appeal to Labour's true heartland"?

And why?

"I joined the Labour Party precisely because Corbyn was bringing it back to its core principles!

Who do you think will "appeal to Labour's true heartland"? "

My hope is that Labour at least makes itself electable again in my lifetime - 4 years of Corbyn has taken it backwards

When Labour was winning elections (comfortably) it was convincing many people across the country who often vote Tory or LibDem to vote for them. Some people think that's an unworthy goal. But appealing only to people who subscribe to Corbyn/Milne and co will see Labour stuck in opposition for foreseeable future, and the Tories, no matter how dreadful, have a free pass

Being pleased that the current leader is true to "core principles" seems like a privileged indulgence to me

But I do have to accept that times are fractious and polls unreliable - so there is a chance he MIGHT win an election. But then we are stuck with a not very bright or capable man running the country in the aftermath of Brexit - and THAT will see Labour out of power for generations-

So that's me ragging on the Labour party in it's current state - but I am a Labour supporter - just one of the ones that Corbyn supporters like to dismiss as centrist and mock as "sensibles"

    • I can’t seem to find the original post or person in my DMs.    in 2013/14 someone had a large wheel of string fairy lights. They were white string and there were options of warm and white lights. I hired them for (I think) £20 for the day. They listed it for hire for parties, weddings, Christmas etc. I’m not sure how long they were (50m or 100m?).   if you have something similar or were the person who listed these, I’m looking to hire again for a small event on c. Mar 17th. Easier to hire off someone rather than buy myself and store away for another 12 years.   Thank you.
    • Food not consistent at all at Plough and if not lunch menu, well going rate really…these “ children” seem to be  the problem regarding food.. others being adults hopefully more adaptable.. new thought for you, choose a restaurant/cafe etc for all of you and why not get M & S  food that can be heated up for children? I am sure if you explain to whoever you choose they will accommodate you. In this day and age, most children I know and yours are not young either, have tried and tasted most cuisines — frankly, built rod for your own backs here.. I get veggie and vegan but most east Chinese, Thai …..and of course usual cafe offerings.. Indian an acquired taste … so normally fried rice for example with veg suits most…  Really interested to find out who the lucky cafe is going to be..and where.. East Dulwich, Peckham?  Other thought is pizza…not my personal choice for a celebration meal but does cater for all your various diets… maybe you could make it special buy adding a lovely cake at the end or  in your case prob two,,
