I'm having a Malcolm Tucker meltdown Nettie. That bath sounds nice though - could you stop by and run it for me?

As for the boycott idea - seriously, does anyone actually do this? No one eats kitkats or drinks cocacola or runs a car on petrol (or as Sean says, watches fillums), or is it just fashionable to hate Murdoch more than other ne'er do wells?

I'm all for sticking by your principles, but I'll have no truck with half-arsed, uninformed bullshit.

Not until I've had my bath at any rate.

I don't, but I'm not as selective in applying my scorn than others. It's true, Murdoch's News Corporation holds a monopoly over the world's media. But I'm not a conspiracy theorist who believes that Murdoch eats babies or is hell-bent on world domination. I read the stuff his media outlets print, but I know that the entire British press is a murky stretch of water, and all of the mainstream broadsheets and tabloids have their own agendas and bias, and are now largely more concerned with advertising revenue than delivering objective, unbiased reporting to their readers.

Surely it doesn't have to be all or nothing? Either I live in a yurt and recycle my own poo or I have to have my own coal-fired power station in the shed?

I think people can make a stand by not buying Murdoch-owned newspapers and/or Sky for good reasons without attempting to live their lives without ever coming into contact with his empire.

As to whether it's worth it - not sure? Every time I get invited round to chez-SeanMac I'm always quite jealous but on getting home I find I watch enough tv as it is without having access to even more stuff. Sometimes I just want to go back to 4 channels. Quality not quantity. Or just read a book.

I went back to 4 channels 6 moths ago (no digital reception at my new house). I?ve been intending to get cable ever since I moved but only having 4 channels is of so little impact on my life that I haven?t got around to it yet and now can?t really be bothered.

Telly was shit with a bazillion channels and it is shit with 4.

    • Why does the place have no food and smell like s#it recently?
    • I was so sick of being ghosted by tradespeople, but contacted Hussein on the advice of a neighbour.  I'm so glad I did. They did a great job, were communicative, started and finished exactly when they said they would and were really tidy and respectful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a reliable and great value painter.
    • I think for the English, turtles are salt-water (sea) beasts whereas terrapins are fresh water, but I know e.g. Americans use 'turtle' for all chelonians including tortoises.
    • They're turtle-y different.  😉 They hibernate, burying themselves under mud or at the bottom of the pond. There have been regular sightings in there (and in Dulwich Park) for years and terrapins can live for 15-20 years in the wild, 30+ years in captivity. They are however an invasive species - whether or not the RSPCA or a local wildlife charity would come out to try and trap / remove them is another matter.
