last year I was responsible for the destruction of a tree....

or thats how it feels. I am sick to death of the mountain of food flyers and estate agents crap that comes through my letter box every day. It has just got absolutely ridiculous. I have a daily routine of gathering them all up and marching them off to the recycle bag. I never look at any of them. It seems to be more than ever and they should be banned.

and relax.....

Poor Philby! This sounds absolutely horrifying!

How many of these awful things do you get through your letterbox on a daily basis?

I'm going out on a limb here, but have you considered attaching a small but prominent "No Junk Mail" sign to your front door? It may prove effective in deterring the offending scoundrels - average reduction rates of 75% have been reported in similar areas (Source:internet).

Not really sure what you can do about the estate agent's crap. That does sound awful! It's no wonder you're sick :(

People who put junk mail in your door do not read or can not read signs saying no junk mail.

Collect it up then send it to the NF courtesy of their freepost address which is

British Heritage

FREEPOST

That's all you need to write.

This is the most wonderful suggestion I've ever heard on this forum; a way of venting my frustration and doing good at the same time.

Tell me, Philby. Exactly how many trees have you and your ringpiece been ccomplict in felling, so as to remove all the evidence of your dinner from your backside the following morning, eh?

And before any of you even dare think about mounting your high horse, very few, if any, of the brands available in the supermarkets or on the highstreet are 100% recycled.

Peter, are you trying to tell me that this (supposedly) environmentally-conscious consumer can't use either a toothbrush or a spoon to clear their crevasse of dung, instead of toilet paper? I t only takes one for the rest to follow, you know.

You are of course right Scribe, although I don't think we need to resort to implements; millions of people across the world don't use toilet paper, just a wash cloth and water.

But we have to start somewhere, and junk mail is an inexcusable waste of resources.

Are you sure this still an active campaign PR? As it started in 2009 the BNP are likely to have cancelled that freepost address and the only people you'll now be costing money are the Royal Mail.

Most canvassers are students trying to make ends meet,or people who want to make some cash without paying tax.

They are at least trying, and not just sitting on their backsides, and imposing on someone else.

Theres not many ways to earn some cash, in the eighties inflation days, all dragged themselves off to bootsales selling bits and pieces, and attracting money to the boroughs.

But if they are not lucky enough to have a local bootfair because councils wont allow it, they are being retrospective.

Canvassers are a nuisance at times but believe me they work ruddy hard for their pittance. when I done canvassing back in the day. people chased me up the road when free samples were on offer.

    • That's a disgusting slur against an innocent driver who was probably just on their way to drop off freshly-baked muffins at an orphanage when they had to swerve out of the way of a so-called "cyclist", and anyway traffic lights are just a Marxist conspiracy by Southwark Council to slow traffic down and force people out of cars, so we're all better off without it.

The only dark drink with a creamy head which should ever be drunk by a man of my age is Guinness. I've also become lactose intolerant recently, meaning I get very impatient around milk. You make a fair point, but those legal channels are available for them to recover their repair, and legal, costs and, as I said: "It's up to them if they [Southwark] want to do that, of course." There's three or four grands worth of Cat N write-off, wrapped round a post there (more, if it's broken down for parts) causing problems. If they can't be arsed sorting that, I'm not holding my breath. Even Southwark couldn't screw their numbers up enough to make shifting the post back through circa 15 degrees more than a couple of grand, so there's a drink in it for everyone. It's a bit 'leany' just now, yeah, but I haven't noticed anyone having to limbo under it to get to Superdrugs. Or, they could make a feature of it. You know exactly where the Green Cross Code Man was in 1973: less than a hundred yards away, on North Cross Road. https://youtu.be/C-XwVVMiCO4?si=rt8kQllev0t1Lgdi For some years, I found it quite difficult to go into The Forrester's after many long afternoons of the soul with Dave Prowse* (The Green Cross Code Man). *RIP big fella. • Loving the arm chair speculation on here  Blimey how long before this gets spun out to be a drug dealer welding a sawn off whilst driving away from a smash and grab at the coop cash machine flipped his car and landed on a bollard type post  Where's the green cross code man when you need him ?
