Sue
My car was very nearly uninsured for a day (would have been tomorrow) while changing insurers.Luckily I realised in time to sort it out.If it had been, and had been parked on the road but not driven for that day, could that have had any implications for future insurance, or would I just be thanking my lucky stars that nobody had run into it? Alan Medic
You would probably be breaking the law for that day as it was on the street. Who is to know you weren't insured for a day and didn't have your car off street? Luckily in the end it was sorted in time. teddyboy23
Not sure what department ie police dvla or council.but there are vans with cameras fitted to each corner of the roof that drive around 24/7.checking car number plates ie tax insurance not.the best time they tend to catch people is between 12am and 6am .any car found without any of the above 3 will be clamped straight away and a notice put on your car saying why it's been clamped.so even if a genuine mistake has been made and say your insurance as run out say 20minutes ago they will know straightaway.the reason I said between 12am and 6am most people are in doorz asleep apart from the night workers of course. Sue
Phew, glad I didn't risk it then, sod's law I would have been clamped.I presume as well as a fine it would have upped my future insurance premiums? malumbu
The authorities are after those driving dangerous vehcles, avoiding tax and generally those who flout the law (often those driving uninsured may be up to no good). We shouldn't get into a panic about the odd day. Worse would be if the vehilce was nicked when uninsured.I did enjoy the car clamped over the road for non-payment of VED (car tax).If you are a net twitcher you can check whether your dodgy neigbour's car is taxed and MOTd using DVLA checker or this one https://cartaxcheck.co.uk/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/160900-question-about-car-insurance/#findComment-1159671 Share on other sites

A student (I am assuming) took the keys from my coat pocket where I had stupidly left them. It never turned up, not even burned out somewhere. However I got much more for it than I was expecting, as it was a couple of weeks before Christmas and I think the insurance company took pity on me :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/160900-question-about-car-insurance/#findComment-1159740 Share on other sites

TheArtfulDogger
Sue, you would have been a smooth criminal and you can guarantee that the camera car would have passed where as the hordes of other uninsured cars out there would have gotten away with it Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/160900-question-about-car-insurance/#findComment-1347964 Share on other sites
