I posted a while back about having terrible backache due to constant breastfeeding/sling/baby carrying and probably terrible posture too.

Last night it got so bad that it took me over an hour to find a comfortable way of sleeping which did not hurt like hell (using pregnancy body pillow again!). I have a constant ache between my shoulderblades worse on the right.

Would massage help? Or any other treatment? Send me some recommendations please.

My back was really bad when my daughter was born - a combination of breastfeeding, carrying a baby and having a "toddler" who didn't yet toddle.

I can highly recommend Daniel at Dulwich Chiropractic (on Crystal Palace Road, near Jennings Road) - a couple of treatments with him and it was sorted. I go every now and then these days when I feel my back is starting to get sore, he always manages to fix it. Lovely guy, very professional, and you can take your baby along... either in the treatment room with you, or I always found the receptionists were more than happy to look after them in the waiting area.

Good luck.

A couple of deep tissue massages have helped me sort out the knots in my upper back and neck (from craning to look at the baby while BFing). I see Odette at the Dulwich Therapy Rooms but I leave the baby at home with my husband so you'd have to check whether you can take yours with you.

Gomukhasana ('cow face pose') in the morning and before bed really helps. Try just 30 sec on each side. Hold the pose a few seconds longer every time you do it.

You might also find that although you blame your poor posture for your back pain, this may be entirely backwards. Your posture may be poor *because* you have back pain which is not your fault at all.

It's not at all uncommon for your spine and pelvis to become misaligned during pregnancy. Even a small misalignment can cause you a lot of pain. You may not be able to see it for yourself, but a good massage therapist or osteopath will be able to identify and correct it.

I've had a really bad back since giving back 8 months ago, and still got a long way to go - I would highly recommend Elaine, an osteo at Dulwich Therapy Rooms plus a good dose of pilates. With your stomach muscles weakened by pregnancy and birth (esp if like me you had a C-section) your back takes the brunt - so the pilates helps rebuild that much needed abdominal strength. For that, I highly recommend Kellie (Jelly Belly).
Hiya - I am a bit biased (he's my other half!) but try Luis at The Vale Practice on Grove Vale - he specialises in Sports / Deep Tissue Massage. I have a 12-week old and have been suffering with a painful back, neck & shoulders and he has been working wonders, well worth a try.

    • ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Support from No-Files – A Truly Exceptional Experience I want to extend a huge thank you to Tony at No-Files Estate Agents for his incredible help and unwavering support over the past 10 months. My flat sale was far from straightforward, and I truly don’t think I’d be in my new home today without him. The process was made extremely difficult by solicitors who were unprofessional, unresponsive, and at times, outright rude. They refused to communicate with each other, which caused significant delays and confusion throughout the chain. Tony became the key point of contact between four people in the chain and the other estate agent, constantly stepping in to manage communication and keep things moving. The situation became so complex that all parties were forced to exchange and complete on the same day. Despite all three buyers and sellers having removal vans booked and packed, one solicitor refused to answer calls and only sent a single email at 3:55pm making it impossible for anyone to move that day. This caused unnecessary stress and cost for everyone involved and we all live for weeks with a flat with all my items packed away. To make matters worse, my mortgage offer—along with the offers for others in the chain—was expiring. Solicitors offered no guidance and simply suggested reapplying, with no clear timeline or confidence in the process. Throughout it all, Tony remained calm, communicative, and supportive. He was the only person I could rely on to explain what was happening, keep everyone in the loop, and offer reassurance during moments when I felt completely overwhelmed. His professionalism, dedication, and genuine care made all the difference. I am so grateful I chose No-Files. Although I’m sad to have moved out of the area and may not be able to use them again, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to recommend them. If you're looking for an estate agent who is professional, honest, transparent, and truly goes above and beyond—No-Files and Tony are exactly who you need. Thank you again, Tony — I truly couldn’t have done this without you! May 2025  Andrea
