Mrs Stuntman Bob
This is a great idea! A few questions I have two kids under 3 will it be a safe place to have them with me? What if I don't learn the dance in time?Although How can I dance with them around? nunheadmum
Am I the only one thinking, what's a flash mob? Think I get the jist from the post but wary that I may have totally misunderstood! Mum Mob
Hi nunheadmum,No, You're probably not! Sorry if the information isn't clear. The definition is broadly this:"A flash mob is a large group of strangers who assemble in a public space and perform a bizarre or pointless act for a brief time then disperse again in order to amuse or confuse those who witness it."Think the T-mobile advert of the dancing in Liverpool Street Station(although not technically a real flash mob) or things like flash mob pillow fights, knitting, standing still etc.Our aim is simply to get as many grown ups and kids together as possible on Comic Relief Day, this Friday, 18th March at a specified time and place to have a load of fun suddenly starting to dance in a public space and then stopping and going about their business as if nothing has happened! We want to try and raise money by people making a donation to Comic Relief to take part and also asking other people to make a donation to 'dare' them to do it!Mrs Stuntmanbob, please don't worry at all. It doesn't matter about doing the dance properly or anything like that, it's just about getting involved with something silly for an incredibly good cause. The song is 'Do You Love Me (Now that I can dance)by the Contours and is a really easy song to dance to. As long as you can do a version of the twist and the mashed potato, you'll be fine!!! You can learn a few of the moves or just freestyle along - it really doesn't matter, it's just about local people getting together and making something happen.Any other questions, please just ask and don't be put off by the air of mystery - it's all very safe and child and baby friendly. Mum Mob have all got several young children each and are very far from being professional dancers! Please just join in and have a laugh. Mum Mob
Thank you both so much and everyone else who has signed up so far or PM'd us about coming along. Don't know how many people saw the Comic Relief documentary 'Famous,Rich and In The Slums'? If you didn't catch it, please try to see it on i-player this week.It was unbelievably heart-breaking and humbling viewing and certainly puts a few things into perspective about our lives here in East Dulwich. We all give and receive so much support to each other on this forum, wouldn't it be a wonderful thing if we could channel some of that spirit into practical help for people in abject desperation with no-one looking out for them. Orphan children raising siblings alone, women working as prostitutes so that their children can eat, babies and women dying needlessly in childbirth....the list goes on and on.In that context, donating a few quid to jig about in public or just donating to support those who are doesn't seem like such a raw deal. Here's the link to the Mum Mob justgiving page if you'd like to be a part of this in any way that you canhttp://www.justgiving.com/Mum-MobThanks x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16182-comic-relief-flash-mob-count-down-begins/#findComment-419254 Share on other sites

Mum Mob
Well done all Mum Mob recruits!Operational update just in from Mum Mob HQ:At 4.27pm today, Friday 18th March 2011, the Comic Relief Flash Mob hit an unsuspecting Sainsbury's on Dog Kennel Hill. The fruit and veg aisles were turned into an impromptu dance floor for just under 3 minutes as more than 50 Mum Mobbers (big and small), danced up a storm doing the mashed potato and the twist to the sounds of "Do you Love Me?" by The Contours.Shocked shoppers and store staff soon joined in the Flash Mob spirit, giving encouragement, clapping, cheering and even joining in dancing with the Mobbers.Despite the melee, two conscientious Sainsbury's staff members continued steadfastly restocking the bananas, despite being surrounded by dancing, whooping Mums, Grans, Dads and kids. We applaud their dedication to duty! Thanks to the sterling efforts of all our Mum Mobbers and supporters, over ?800 has been raised for Comic Relief so far, including giftaid and cash donations, which is a remarkable amount for 3 minutes of tomfoolery.Mum Mob HQ would like to pass on our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has taken part and donated so incredibly generously, sometimes more than once, thank you so much.If you were shopping in Sainsury's today and witnessed the carry-on or if you know someone who bravely took part in the nerve wracking Top Secret mission, please consider donating to support Comic Relief through our just giving page:http://www.justgiving.com/Mum-MobMum Mob HQ is currently hard at work editing the video footage but in the meantime, we will be uploading a rough edit to youtube as soon as possible and will let you know when it is available. To all Mum Mob recruits, we are incredibly proud of all of your efforts and we hope you had as much fun as we did!Well done again all of you and remember...your dancing made a difference.Mum Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16182-comic-relief-flash-mob-count-down-begins/#findComment-420962 Share on other sites
