Hi

I have attached a children's questionnaire for any age to fill in it will only take 2 mins to fill and all you have to do is send it to [email protected] and would help me soooo much

A bit about me I am a former local who now attends Leeds Metropolitian university.

My name is Simone Gittings and I am in my second year at Leeds Metropolitan University studying design, for this specific module, I have to so a self initiated design project meaning I create my own brief and rationale for carrying out my intended project. I am particularly interested in the rise of modern and contemporary design in architecture, product, furniture and interior design and also the development of technology today particularly embedded technology such as lights and sound systems into furniture. I therefore came to the conclusion that with the rise in demand for the latest gadgets and gizmos whether they are mobile phones, computers or an LED light up table, embedded technology is here to stay. There seems to be a gap in the market for developed furniture and products for children, I am therefore conducting a questionnaire for children about their daily routine, hobbies and whether they are interested in the few products designed and made for them with embedded technology.

Why I am conducting this research:

I have devised a questionnaire for children to answer on their daily routine, hobbies and their interest in technology to help me design a new and contemporary product or piece of furniture which will not only look desirable and fun but also aid their education when at home and after school. The questions will help me decide whether designing with embedded technology for children is appropriate, what and when my design will be used and whether children own or are coming into contact with technology such as mobile phones and iPods to prove that technology developments are becoming more desired and useful.

What happens to the information I obtain through the questionnaire?

The information I receive back from the questionnaire will be used only as primary research in my project and will go no further than being seen by me and my tutors at Leeds Metropolitan University. No names are required and participants will remain anonymous throughout my project.

Potential outcome:

Based on the primary research obtained by my questionnaire I intend to design and develop an appropriate outcome to my brief and potentially create it in a workshop. This final outcome is to be submitted and marked for my course and not for manufacturing or marketing purposes to or for anyone else.

Concerns:

If you have any concerns or questions about my project or questionnaire please feel free to contact me or my personal tutor at the University, contact details are at the top of the page. I will not have any personal contact with the children during this research and this questionnaire will be handed out and supervised by the staff who works with the children and they will report back to me with the results

Hi, Thanks for the reply. The speaking tube idea is very clever and no one seems to have done anything about it yet, it would be good for me to maybe pursue that idea on another project but for this one i am concentrating on embedded electronics such as LED lights, fibre optics and speakers etc into children's furniture more suitably for before going to bed when children calmer and less prone to breaking things! Some ideas i have had already are a fabricated hood which goes over the childs bed with LEDs and speakers incorporated so they can read and listen to bedtime stories this hood would also be good for children who share a bedroom and want their personal space - this is the sort of route i am taking

Any more information/ ideas would be greatly appreciated

BB100 click on the link at the bottom of my first post and the questionnaire should come up in word? (Children questionnaire about their activities and opinions on smart products.docx)

    • Miss Robson is the last of the old school independent vets. All the chains are have seriously hiked their prices over the last few years which now makes pet ownership only possible for the wealthy few. Even with pet insurance -( which often excludes items or has ‘deductibles’ ) it is just so much money. A visit with some medication is often £150 - £200. The vets themselves are excellent.
    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.
    • Dawson Heights again  2 lifts out of order at ladlands block Christmas Eve so of course the 🛗 will not be repaired tomorrow Christmas Day or Boxing Day or when how do elderly or mothers with children and prams and food and presents get to the floors and with the 10 minutes you get to drop off  to park and not get a Pcn fine and delivery food to relatives who can’t leave their house unbelievable Southern housing does any know email address of Coe of southern housing
    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
