As a self-employed person and mum of three there are occasions when I have no choice but to work in a coffee shop out of the house (where three extremely noisy kids are). without that option every now and then I wouldn't be able to work - and I don't have the option of renting office space for those odd occasions. Most people I know who do this aren't taking up all the seats - they buy a drink and maybe a snack and sit quietly, not bothering anyone. With so much of our population self employed I really think that it's unkind to moan about it. I don't know why it's considered smug!

The only time I felt annoyed about a 'work from coffee shop' guy was when he seemed to be giving someone else a humongous rollocking over the phone for his standard of work.

But coffee shops like the one below have meeting rooms you can reserve for doing the failing staff members personal development plan (or other meetings) :)

    • Hi, does anyone have their up to date number please?
    • I imagine Franco Manca's business dropped off quite a bit when Yard Sale opened (though isn't Yard Sale delivery only?) But in any case, both of those are chains.
    • Thanks. I'll call them shortly as I could get there without the car.  That's good of Sainsburys! We've done the apple pie and tart thing, an ongoing muesli thing and the coleslaw thing - just not sure what effect all the sugars are having on our digestive tracts.  If we were in Somerset and had a press, I'd consider it. Can't be that diffcult, can it?
    • One time Sainsbury's delivered 6 bags of apples instead of 6 single apples which I couldn't possibly get through. I phoned Pecan in Peckham to ask if they would accept them despite their website stating no fresh foods. I must have phoned at just the right time as they were happy to accept them. Sainsburys gave me a refund so the donation was courtesy of them. Or you could experiment with all kinds of apple recipes and write a blog about it
